Highway Thru Hell

I don't know how many out there watch this show, but for those who don't, it's on the Discovery Channel Canada, and it's about a team of heavy rescue tow truck operators who work on the Coquihalla Highway in British Columbia.

The upcoming week's episode involves a wreck of a flatdeck trailer hauling three single-axle travel trailers that hit a bridge and land in a river. I'm an RVer and I work in the transportation industry, so this has nightmare written all over it.

Here's the preview:

My father-in-law drove a heavy duty wrecker for a couple years before he started his own business. He drove a 50 ton wrecker (I think it was 50 ton) and the company had other rigs too. They were one of the few companies around that had a rotator. That rotator could pick up a loaded tractor trailer and swing it around in a circle... pretty amazing stuff.

I tow my TT on the Coquihalla a couple times a year and it's not an easy drive, but the majority of these major accidents happen because of speeding...coming in too fast into a corner and then braking to hard in the corner. I would never recommend this route to anyone in the winter while towing, it gets lots of snow..
