We camp 4th of July because that was the day our 22 year old son died at home from cancer, and we don't want to be home that day. We are camping Labor Day weekend this year because my sister is coming to stay with my mom so we can get away for a few days. Mom is 94 and living with us now. Otherwise we wouldn't go this weekend, the CG is going to be full. It isn't even full on the 4th of July.

Since my TT is on a permanent site I don't have to fight the traffic or book a camp site way ahead of time. Sure is nice to just pack some food and clean undies in the truck and take off. Hope everyone has a safe and relaxing Labor Day.

With Memorial Day weekend approaching, I thought I would reopen and bump up this old poll. Vote away.

Being that I'm going out next weekend, I voted every chance I get! Holiday camping is great because I use less vacation days.

since we have retired, we do very little on weekends. we save our shopping and especially our camping for weekdays. i understand that some like a full campground but we prefer less crowded or better yet, boondocking, to each there own.....happy camping.. if we take the grandkids, we pull them out of school, after all they can learn more from nannie and papa than some old school teacher.

Crabman... How old are your kids? Do they help with your crab business?

25, 11, 10, 10. All four boys. The 25 year old used to help me but now has a career of his own in the tech field. The others take turns on the boat when school lets out, but do help me now when I work evenings at the crabhouse.

We are not retired yet, but also prefer the quieter camping times when it isn't wall-to-wall campers crowded into every available space. We don't care too much for holiday traffic, either, and sometimes "camp" right at home on holiday weekends, pretending that the house is not there. A few good books, some enjoyable games, and several Big Band CDs, along with pre-cooked meals, seem to satisfy us just fine. Like Topflight, we frequently take the 5er somewhere either just before or just after the holidays.

Looks like a tie between never and all of them. The extreme opposites!

X2
We like the openness of a campground that is not full for every spot. Being retired lets us help out those still working and we don't use up spots during the holidays.

I host from before memorial day until after labor day so I do camp through all of major holidays, but if I wasn't hosting I wouldn't camp on any of them.

If the less than 10 percent of all campers, that actually use their campers, ever hit the road at the same time it would be something to see. There is probably only enough camping spots for about 2 percent of all the campers out there.
