Year-over-year retail towable sales remained flat in June – down 2.2% – while registrations were up 5.6% for the first six months and 3.5% in the second quarter. January of this year was the last month that showed a marked increase for the sector, recording a 13.5% year-over-year gain.
According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc., June results were:
• Sales for the high-volume travel trailer sector edged up 2.3% in June and rose 8.5% year-to-date.
• Fifth-wheel registrations were down 7.6% for the month and edged up 3% through June.
• Folding camping trailer sales declined 18.2% in June and 8.8% year-to-date.
• June park model sales fell 23.3% and 6.1% for the first six months.
Thor Industries Inc. remained the towable sales leader year-to-date with a 36.6% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. at 21.4% and Jayco Inc. with a 12.2% share.
By segment for the first six months, Thor was No. 1 in travel trailer sales with a 33.5% share, fifth-wheels (54.1%) and park models (21.1%).
Forest River was the folding camping trailer leader through June with a 35.4% share while holding the No. 2 position in travel trailers (22.1%) and fifth-wheels (17.1%).
