Mischief Makers Blew Up our Mailbox!!!

Don comes into bed last night and says not to worry about the charred paper in the kitchen. He told me that he heard this loud bang. He looked out the front door and smoke was coming out of the mailbox (ours is located out at the curb)! We forgot to get the mail out but even a software package that was in there wasn't too badly damaged.

The sheriffs deputy arrived and told Don that the same culprits had taken a statue from the front porch of another house and put it in the middle of the street, and took someone else's LARGE decorative something-or-other and put it out in the middle of another street! Awwwwwwww to be a kid(?) again... Sheeeesh!

We had a guy doing that around here, he blew up 12 mailboxes before feds caught him. He got 3 years in a federal pen.

Looks like they needed something stronger then what they used! Yes it is a federal offense to mess with a mailbox, as it should be.

You might want to file a complaint with the US Postal Inspection Service, Healthi. Here's a link to their on-line complaint form.

Thanks for the link! We did talk to our local PO this morning. They haven't had reports in the recent past of our situation. Thinking it's an isolated incident they recorded it there at our local office, but said pretty much not to worry unless it happens again and it looks like our mail is actually being targeted. LOL, Don's got a camera set up tonight. That would be a kick-in-the-pants if those miscreants show up again!

However, if the perps are readers of this forum, you've just given your plans away.

Maybe these guys were the culprits.

Yeah, down here they love to play "mail box baseball," where they drive around in a truck and somebody in the bed with a baseball bat tries to take out as many as possible. That's why we got a PO Box, but now everybody wants to know why we have a home address and a PO Box. So I politely inform them that if I ever find the guys who took out three of our mail boxes, I'd send them their way and see how long it took them to quit buying boxes and just rent a PO Box!!!

We don't call 911. At least not until the smoke clears and I'm not talking about the smoke from the mailbox.

If you catch them, make sure you do not violate their civil rights! If you use a gun, make sure sure they fall in.

Make the box out of steel on a steel post.. and then tape the fun when they hit it with a bat

Mine was knocked down the other day. The pole was almost rotted off at ground level anyway and we saw the reflector from a mirror near so I think a truck veered to close to the edge of the street and hit it.

I was going to have to replace the pole soon anyway so I just went and bought a 4x4 pressure treated pole and made one to replace it. I never turned it in.

Mischief makers my Aunt Fanny! I would say what they are but Mama told me not to use those words. I hope the miscreants show up again and the camera gets a good shot!

Camera should get a good shot... maybe in a few weeks that is if it doesn't arrive before our next "road" trip. Don went ahead and ordered home security cameras and recorder. We should be able to log in online and see what's happening even away from home. Costco had just advertised a new system for $300 off when buying online. Big Brother is welcome at our house! Please Mr. Postman look and see.....
