Need Suggestions MI to AZ via 55 to I-44 to I-40

We need to make a quick trip to Phoenix from MI in two weeks. We will be traveling 55 to I-44 to I-40.

Due to other factors we will have 4 days to drive there and another 4 to come back after the visit and won’t be able to take the TT. If it was a different time of year I’d take the northern route back home and add a lot of time.

Have planned to visit some normal and not so normal spots and am looking for more quick visit suggestions as we don’t think we’ll get back this way soon. We will see Galena, KS (Tow Mater from movie Cars), Federal Memorial in Oklahoma City, Tucumcari NM, Old Town in Albuquerque, Petrified Forest, Meteor Crater, and Cadillac Ranch.

We’ve already been through IL and MO several times so they are not in the agenda.

Sorry this was so long and thanks for the suggestions.

The Grand Canyon is just a few miles off I40 at Williams. From there you can go South to Phoenix.

I did plan on 1/2 a day, on the way home, to go up to the canyon and then back east along the wall and through Cameron before going south to I-40. I just hope it is enough time to do it but if not we will alter the trip to not miss this.

Someone mentioned Walnut Canyon, Wupatki, and Sunset Crater so we will try as much as we can. I have the gps with all the unusual sites in there as weather may determine what we see more than the time alloted.

Thanks

There is a lot to see in the park. You might consider staying just outside the park or in Williams and plan on a few more hours. We have been there twice in the off season and there was still traffic to contend with.
