Good idea Doug, Nashville is only an hour from Cincy via Greensberg, then I-74. I was kind of curious about Western Ohio campgrounds. Does Ohio use ReserveAmerica? Southern Indiana has some really good spots as well. Do we just post on this thread? Terry

Terry,
You can go to the Forum main page under Community.
There you should be able to see all groups and this one should be listed.
There is a discussion thread started in the group. You can posts there or contact anyone in the group by PM.
Ohio does use ReserveAmerica.

We have several good CG's here in the tri-state.

Ohio - Hocking Hills SP, Cowan Lake SP, East Fork Lake SP
Indiana - Versailles SP, Clifty Falls SP

I am not familiar with many Ky SP's. Cumberland lake SP, Mammoth Cave NP

Best regards,
Doug

Doug,

I'm going to be camping at the Hocking Hills SP next month. It does not look like it's going to be too full next month. I'm wondering if I should just show up and look at the sites and pick a nice one vs reserving a site now, any thoughts?

Justin,
You'll probably still be in good shape next month.
A lot of times I reserve a spot, but if there's spots open they don't mind you changing spots.
I'd love to meet you up there, but we're heading West.

Enjoy the trip.
Hocking hills is beautiful all year long.

Best regards,
Doug

Justin, We're going in April for weekend. We haven't booked yet. Don't know why because we're going with 5 or 6 other camping trailers. Have you stayed at this SP before? April shouldn't be any trouble getting a spot, but if the weather forecast is looking promising, then you'll notice the sites start to book up for the weekends. It seems like we end up over by the water tower because that is usually what is left. I've always wanted to stay at the other end because they have a really nice playground and the sites are more appealing.

There's a CG map on their website. Maybe you should book a site over where Kim has recommended and then you can always change after you get there if it's wide open.

Enjoy,
Doug

Kim,

I've never been there, but it does sound like a really nice SP. I'm from Michigan. Most of our camping has been in Michigan with gas prices such as they are. We are taking a trip to WV so this will be our 3 night camping trip on the way. I'm really looking forward to it.

Do you or Doug have any sites you know are really really nice that would be worth booking ahead of time, just to have it, just need one site. I'm just not sure if I ought to book and then change sites if we see/find a better one.

Justin,
I do not.
The websites now are pretty good and many will have pictures of the sites, how far away from bath houses etc.
Kim probably sounds like she could recommend something.

Kind regards,
Doug

Hocking Hills SP does not have pictures of the sites, though like most SP's (that I have been to) they do have the dimensions and description. I've sometimes found web sites where people have done an amazing job of putting up some pictures and descriptions of some of the better or more desirable sites. I've not found anyone that's done that for Hocking Hills SP. I usually go around and take pictures of other sites I'd like to stay at in the future when camping. Never been to this SP so I'm not really sure the "best" sites. For sure being somewhat close to hiking trails and a playground is what I'll be shooting for.

Here's a link to the SP and campground map.
I know that Lake Rose is very nice. Secluded beautiful lake that you must walk to.
I would think site 70-75 and 140-150 would all be good sites.
Also, site near the path to Old Mans Cave would be convenient to walk over to one of the best attractions in the area.
There is about 7 SP's within a 10 miles radius.
My favorites are Old Mans Cave and Cedar Falls. In this SP you are next door to Old Mans Cave and about 2-3 miles from Cedar falls.
Rock House SP is also very cool and Conkles Hollow, Conkles Hollow has a trail along the upper rim which is scary with small children.

Here are pictures of our site - I think 54. We reserved 70, but no one was there so we moved.

The playground is on the other end of the CG. The sites were all nice. You will find one you like. Hocking Hills IMO is one of Ohio's best. Be sure and check out all the attractions - although some are a drive from the CG. The trails are excellent to the point people come from quite a distance for hiking.

We were late in the year so the pool was closed, but it looked nice. Rock House, Old Man's Cave, Cantwell Cliffs are all must see places. ... bring comfortable shoes.

I don't know if you are familiar with OH SP CG's, but this sites and facilities are typical. The surrounding area is completely different than anywhere else in OH I have ever been. We look forward to our next trip there. ... hope you enjoy it - at least as much as we have enjoyed MI SP's.
