Oven Tricks

Everytime we try to bake in our oven, we burn the bottom. Got a tip the other day, Turn the oven all the way up and get it real hot and turn it off before putting in your biscuts and bake per directions. Anyone else got any tricks for these little agrivating ovens.

We put our biscuits on the outside edges of a cookie sheet and avoid the middle because the oven's single burner is underneath the center of the oven. Haven't tried putting a heavy pan or cookie sheet on the lowest oven rack to use as a heat disperser and using the middle rack for actual cooking, but that might work--or not.

Ya know, we haven't used our oven yet. LOL, the tech at our dealer suggested a good use for the oven - use it to store light weight stuff (towels, etc)

I will keep that in mind when heating bisquits though. Has anyone ever baked a pizza or meat loaf? Also, grandkids wanted to bake cookies last week; anyone ever do that?

Haven't actually tried baking in the oven yet!

Re-heated a macaroni casserol I'd pre-made for a trip... best use we've come up with for the oven is keeping toast, bacon & eggs warm as you're cooking them. That way we can all sit together as a family and enjoy a nice, warm breakfast!

I have two little issues with the oven - it's too small and it heats up the TT too much! But what the heck, eh? We're camping! I like the little dutch oven you've got Slimy!

Go to a home center or tile store and by 4 6x6 unglazed tiles and place them on the bottom rack just above the burner this will take care of your problem.

Cook them slower & longer. Preheat oven and try 350 degrees and see what you get. Ours takes 25 to 28 minutes.

Bubbdan's suggestion is one I have heard of before on another forum, and the people swore by it. Only they just bought one large ceramic floor tile that fit their oven just right. They also used it as a pizza stone.

The one tile is a good idea, we have been using the 4-6x6 and they work great just cook by the direction on the label we don't burn any more..

If you can't find unglazed floor tiles, use a pizza stone. A 12" fits the oven and we use the box it came in to store it. I was afraid of it sliding around in the oven while traveling and breaking or banging up the inside of the oven. It works great and can even be used to bake a pizza, though we haven't tried it yet. Added advantage is knowing that it is food safe. I love my oven and wouldn't even consider a rig without one!
