Troops either! I made a 29 day voyage on the USS Gen Leroy El Tinge across the pond. Left out from San Diego on December 1, Christmas Eve dungaree liberty(with $20) on Okinawa, arrived in DaNang, Vietnam on December 29th. We did it the old fashioned way, over the sides on the ropes into the LST and hit the beach.
40 years later when I filed my claim for prostate cancer, the VA said they had no records I had ever even been to Viet Nam. Go Figure.
