Planting a Little Garden While Snowbirding

I have my Jayco parked at the Imperial Dam Long Term Visitor Area near Yuma right now and will probably be here for a couple of months. The weather is so nice (60 degrees more or less afternoon temps, 40s/50s at night) that I've been getting the itch to plant something. Maybe some radishes, leaf lettuce, or some other vegetable that matures quickly.

Have you ever heard of anyone doing that sort of thing?

There is an RV/Mobile Home park in Modesto, CA that has actually converted one space into a community gargen complete withe 4'x8' raised bed boxes. I am novice gardener and have stubumbled into Square Foot Gardening. If you got some pots (instead of building beds) a lot of the square foot principals would work well. 60 days +/- isn't much time to garden. I would think you could successfully grow a few vegtables, but certainly could start a nice herb garden.

Chipper, I have a large clear plastic storage bin I was thinking of using. I could put the lid on in the evening to help hold in the heat. Found a spot to get some free, good soil too (there's a lot of silt built up at the lake spillway nearby). All I need is some radish seeds and I'll be in business.

Bill glad your not talking about growing some of "Da Herbs" that some here at "Da Slabs" grow...

You mean some grow illicit herbs there? I bet there's a meth-trailer or two there too. The fellow that towed my stuck truck out of the mud only had a few rotten teeth stubs left... And he was only maybe 30 years old, if that.

One other benefit I realized about having a garden, or some other greenery by the RV- you could use some of your gray water to water it. I wouldn't use it on veggies, but flowers or ornamentals, sure. Less trips to the dump station.
