Poutine

I do not like to go to restaurants as I seemed to have spent a lot of time in them when I was a police officer. Yesterday I decided to take my wife to one of her favourite places. On checking the menu I see that they had poutine along with pulled pork or whatever you call it. I decided to try it as there is a movement to make poutine our national dish.

Poutine is if I understand it correctly, is french fries covered in gravy and cheese curds, well I must say this was the most disgusting thing I have eaten in my life. I did not finish it and when I got home I made a sandwich.

When the server came around and asked how things were, I told him my thoughts, but did agree that this is what I ordered. His words to me were is that poutine is an "acquired taste".

Thanks for the heads up, AG. Sounds nasty enough to me to pass that one up on the menu.

Thanks; good to know. If I eat to much grease/fat in one meal, my stomache revolts! LOL

Now that I know what Poutine is, when we get to Vancouver in June I will pass on it

It's my understanding that Poutine is a French Canadian thing. I've never eaten the stuff, so can't comment on the taste.

Poutine is awesome, but no the commercial crap that gets sold outside quebec, I have had great poutine in northern Quebec, and in Montreal. Fresh cheese curds, a light beef gravy and rough cut fries with skin on freshly fried.

Yes its an acquired taste, but must be made right first

I'm a fan of healthy food but when in Quebec you have to have pouting. I think it's wonderful. Like the last post said it can't just be any cheese or gravy. I do have to add, a cold pint helps it taste even better.

Cheers

As I don't drink I can't comment on trying this dish with a pint, but what I had was disgusting and I did not get a calorie count but it looked to be out of this world.:lizard:

Ewww. About once a year the office orders "in" poutine and I regret it every time! In very, very small doses it can be good, but too much grease, salt oil and squeeky cheese can do a number on the 'ol bod!

I was looking online for a picture of poutine and found that one, of the guy that holds the competition-eating world record for eating poutine. I think he ate something like 12 pounds of the stuff in 20 minutes. MMmmmm! Makes me glad I had a salad for lunch!
