Preferred way of cooking? Gas grill or Campfire?

We use our Gas Grill a lot;

Actually - we enjoy electric griddle and campfire cooking

Breakfast on the electric griddle....everything else campfire (weather permitting).

We get enough gas grill cooking at home.....

Prefer charcoal and have several Weber charcoal smokers and BBQs, however there is something to be said for the convenience of propane. Just today I picked up another Weber Q200 to leave in the TT so I don have to drag my Q220 out of the back yard every time we pack up. I like turning it off and being able leave the campsite at times, can't do that with charcoal or a campfire.

Campfire all the way!! Only in bad weather do we revert to the gas grill.

I prefer the taste of a charcoal cooked meat, but love the convenience of gas. I'm throwing in the towel and buying a gas grill at the end of the season. On our last trip, we had to buy firewood locally and it rained heavily the night before....the wood was rather damp and it was probably 45 minutes before I got a good fire going and ready for the brats. The DW knows I get a little grumpy when I get hungry.

We use a gas grill outside and an electric grill inside.

We use the campfire for all our cooking or will use the outdoor stove if the weather is too bad....haven't had to use it yet though.

Gas Grill - I'm camping, supposedly relaxing - why would I want to have to clean up another mess. Turn it off and I'm done. With charcoal, you have to put it out, make sure it's out, then find a place to dump the coals, plus you have to carry the charcoal. No thanks, I want too relax, ok, I'm done - give me a beer.

I love the flavor of a charcoal grill, however I have young girls, when they decide they are hungry it is time to cook and we usually dont have time to wait for charcoal. I have never cooked over a campfire, I will have to try it sometime.

We carry charcoal for the dutch oven cooking and use gas for all other grilling. Our new White Hawk came with an RVQ which we promptly put away in the garage. We have two other propane grills that will work for years still while camping. Guess I'll end up selling the RVQ sometime.

Mostly we cook inside. I do use our gas grill several times a week. Campfires in our park are unusual. Lots of older people can't handle the smoke so people that have fires are not popular.

You can pry my weber 120 from my cold-dead-no-longer camping hands. That with the skillet add on for breakfast is 90% of the cooking. We've only got on pot in the camper atm for beans/rice/etc.

I keep a small Weber in the camper and use a can type charcoal starter.it only takes a few minutes to get white coals.If you shut the top and bottom dampers when you are done cooking it will kill the coals fast and they can be used for the next cook by mixing with some fresh ones.I like the way you can use the dampers on the Weber to control the heat and speed of cooking.Every gas grill I have owned had bad flare ups,even the ones that claim no flair ups. I still cook breakfast on my 40 yr old Coleman white gas grill with a cast iron griddle.But then I still use my Coleman white gas double mantel lantern to,there's just something about the sound of those Coleman products that means camping to me.I'm thinking about getting an electric smoker for home, and to take camping to add another aspect to our cooking.
