I have one of the propane gauges in the link below. I had one originally and it seemed to only work for a day or two then would shut off and not allow gas to flow. At first thought it was a bad gauge, so exchanged it for another and this one works the same way. Works for a day or two then shuts off.
Is there a trick to using these gauges? Does it shut off because it thinks there is a leak?
I haven't really heard any good about any of the propane tank gauges, I just do it the old fashion way, I tap on it to hear how it sounds, if needed, I lift it up to see how heavy it feels.
The pig-tail that connects to the tank has a valve that's intended to shut if there is a broken line downstream (free-flow). I'd suspect that's what interrupting your gas. I had mine close when I open the tank valve too quickly.

The propane "gauge" you show from walmart has an auto shutoff if it detects "leaks". Need to figure out what is giving the leak indication. Add to this.... these "gauges" dont really gove a good indication of what is in your tank...until you are very near empty... These are actually pressure gauges, not level gauges.... and propane keeps a fairly constant pressure until the tank is empty/near empty. I weigh my tanks before and after each trip and keep a log of weights so I know what my usage trends are and when to expect to need to refill.
