RV sales top 300,000 units shipped in 2013

Heard on the radio today....first time these numbers were produced since the market dove in 2008-9. Big winners were larger, luxury units. These numbers do not count park or mobile homes.

Have to wonder if the economy and tax advantages arent driving the trend (full-timers).....any thoughts?

I think a shock to the economy produces a reaction but over time a new normal is realized. We are living in a brief new normal time, enjoy it because a shock is not far from here.

Doesn't include park models? Wow! Guessing 30-40% of what I haul are park models. Would like to know how big the number is with those included. I can only speak for Canadian East coast but a lot of people are switching to these trailers as no one can afford to travel. Many campgrounds in this area are seasonal only in fact.

I read the other day that the unemployment rate in Elkart, Indiana is now somewhere around 7% whereas in 2009 it was 17%. I'm wondering if its because of all those Baby Boomers retiring? I know they are shipping a lot of units to North Dakota due to the oil boom there.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the baby boomer idea. We had a similar conversation with our dealer. Their buyers are older - like me.
