Can anyone please tell me why I should pay to go to an RV show? This just seems wrong... paying to go shopping.. I know the dealers pay to be there.. so why should I pay? What is next paying to go shopping at the mall?

I`ve never been to one, have been to some boat shows and always had to pay an entrance fee. From what I understand the dealers/vendors have to pay dearly for the use of floorspace at these events. From what I`ve seen at boat shows the show prices on the units were nothing special either. I suppose they are trying to get back some of that floorspace rent. I`m not sure if they get any of the entrance fee cut or the facility holding it gets that. Nothing is free anymore.

We like to go to the different RV shows. I usually get a discount coupon to take some money off the entrance fee. But yet again there still is a parking fee I feel that if I were to drive to all the different dealerships in my area it would be very timely and gas and wear and tear on my car. So I think of it as they bring everything to one place for my connivence. The Springfield, Ma show has seminars, animal exhibits, free samples and drawings. I have won free camping and a home security system. I thought it was scam, but it turned out that one of the company representatives was my son's friend. It was legit! The main reason we go is to visit all the campground booths.We also met the winner of the television show Great American Road Trip. What a funny guy to listen to. Meeting follow RVers and getting their opinions on products is priceless. The shows up here in New England are usually in January and February, so it is a nice way to spent the day "camping" during the winter. Of course this gives us the itch to hit the road and we drive home hoping all the snow melts soon!

The people who put on these shows make a lot of money. Boat shows, car shows, motorcycle shows, computer shows, pet shows, etc. It's a business.

You do pay when you go to the mall. You buy something from a store and part of your money goes to the mall, in rent.

Prior to purchasing our Jayco, we went to the show in Southern California. We knew only that we wanted a larger bunk-house to replace our small/tight 3-4 person fiberglass Casita. We didn't know if we wanted to buy a less expensive 1/2 ton or go with the 3/4ton truck. We just knew we had to upgrade from our mini-van. Thinking 1/2 ton and bunk house, we spent our tiime researching these options at our local show 2 years ago. Two of the companies we considered went out of business; another (Keystone) had terrible reviews online. That left the Jayco. We found the lowest price through Ebay/Rv Direct. Negotiated with local dealer who met the RV direct quote and the rest is history.

I would say that if you have an idea of what you want, go to the rv show and concentrate on that. If you are fortunate enough to know ahead of time what you want and can come armed with the lowest quote, then you may be better off than some (in todays world the smart phone will help bunches)! Ummm BTW, bring a picnic basket with you because the cost of food at the shows are reallllllllly high! Oh, and check online because you may find a discount coupon to get in (we did)

There is a free RV show in Quartzsite every January. It is huge being inside a 5 acre tent and also outside.
