Shattered Hitch...

Well the roads in Sask are soooo bad from decades of neglect that it happened to me 30 miles from home.. going 60 mph I hit a rough section of expansion cracks and my hitch sheared off..fortunately It held together so I could make it home.. the orange "hat" is supposed to sit on top of the Black base unit .. the safety chains did their thing and kept it all attached to the rig.. The warranty I bought with the hitch will cover repairs/replacement.. but I have to pay shipping both ways.. that will not be cheap..

Never seen a hensley break, but I guess enough stress and it can happen to any hitch. Glad all is ok. Could've been worse for sure.

Glad ya'll are okay! That must have been a wild ride!

You mention "the warranty I bought with the hitch". Did you buy a separate warranty? Or is Hensley covering it under a standard warranty?

Glad it didn't turn out any worst and you made it home safe. Did you know it happened when it happened?

Seann,

Glad you are safe, and made it home okay.
A dealer local here has said to me he's installed more than 1500 of the HA and said he has seen a couple of them go just like yours. I guess with any mechanical system, wear and tear can take its toll.

I bought the hitch used and Hensley offered a warranty direct from them.. I was worth it.. No quibbles just send it in and it will be fixed/replaced..
I will NEVER again buy a warranty from a 3rd party .. they do not make money from paying out claims... My buddy was a warranty adjuster for some of these companies and got fired for approving too many deserved claims... (if you know the guy he is uber honest..)

Glad it held together long enough to get you home. Safety chains are a great thing.

Rather than incur the expense of the shipping both ways... why not just have them send you new links and bearings and do the repair? It's very easy to do and would be A LOT less expensive for you.

Shipping two links and bearings, maybe 10-15#, ONE way vs. shipping 99# both ways.

Just a less expensive suggestion.

Good Idea Sean but I would rather them rebuild the whole thing and assume the liability.
