Angry Sticker Shock? This Beats It By A Mile!

When buying our new truck to pull our new tt, neither of us considered the yearly registration fee's! Sticker shock on a new tv or tt is one thing, but to endure that same intense feeling each year when the registration renewal arrives is another!

We were surprised that the renewal arrived so soon (it's due the end of June). Duh! You need that much time to save up for the next year! I don't know, is it just Calif or do other states gouge you each year. Our fee's for the next year.... $616 (last year it was $660)!

OK, I'm not really mad... but this isn't fun

Ouch.

My annual registration fee in Texas for my 3/4 ton Chevy 2500hd is about $75, but it may be going up in the future. The Texas legislature is now in session, and looking for money. Hold on to your wallet, Texans.

I think you have every right to be mad about the size of the fee you must pay. Wow.

Ouch! You must be in one of those states that charge based on the value of the vehicle? We are flat fee here, but I think my friends to the south in Mississippi have the same issue.

Will it go down each year?

Our reg fee is only about $50 a year on my truck. BUT Va. counties charge the dreaded personal property tax on vehicles, boats, RV`s etc. But our Real estate taxes are very low in comparison to many states.

Yup, value of the vehicle purchase price and goes down each year by some small percentage (haven't look it up in a couple years). Wow, you guys have low fee's!

Here in Michigan I pay annually about $120 for my Chevy 2500HD registration. On my 2005 TT I paid a flat, one time fee of $200 a number of years ago for a "Non-Expiring" registration (good as long as I own this particular TT)......, sure would be nice if it was transferable!!

Rumor going around that Michigan wants to get away from the "Non-Expiring" fee on trailers (they may have already).

Nice you have a flat TT fee...I pay around $35 a year for the trailer, $100 for each vehicle. We have a high sales tax (9 3/4%), but no income tax -- for the most part I think it evens out when you factor in all the taxes and fees each state charges. We get hit with a big front end sales tax bill on vehicles.....

$9 a year for the pickup. But that is because I am a disabled veteran, otherwise it would be $56 a year. The fiver costs $36 a year.

In MN my TV tabs were $460. They'll stay that way for a number of years! When Jesse Ventura was governor he hated paying such high license fees on his Escalade that he got the legislature to lower them to a low flat fee. That went bye-bye when he left office. It was nice while it lasted.

We had a flat fee of $99.00 here in Minnesota for newer vehicles when we had the famous gov. Jesse Ventura.

Now they have gone back to vehicle value based fee.
Last year my 2006 F150 was $235.00. I have not received this years renewal yet, but I guess it will be in the same $230.00 range.

I just received in the mail last week the registration renewal form for the GMC 2500HD- $153.00.

The TT is only $12.00. In PA, I have the option on the TT for a five year registration for $60.00. There's no savings unless the registration fees are increased during the five years but it eliminates the nuisance of writing a check for $12.00 every year.

The tax on the TT for last yr was $141.00. Should be less for this yr since it's based on value.

Wow! I knew California taxes/fee's us to death, but had no idea how high our DMV fee's were so high compared to other states! If it weren't for kids/grandkids, I would consider a move outta here

As of last Sept when I bought my 22FB there was still a "non-expriing plate" in Mich. Let's hope they don't change their mind on that one!!
