It's very sad... what drew us to Jayco first (8 years and 3 campers ago) was that Jayco was a privately traded, family owned company. That's all gone now....

I find this very disappointing. One of the main reasons that we liked Jayco is it not being owned by a mega corporation such as Thor. I hope it isn't a negative for the brand and the dealers. There are frequent reports of poor customer service from Forest River owned brands, though I don't see many complaints about Thor owned brands so hopefully that is a positive sign.

Why will it be your last Jayco? Not going to RV anymore?

Mods must have missed one to merge with the original.

Just as well to own anything now. Give it time, things will change at Jayco. Sunnybrook is a good example (Bought by Winnebago and turned into crap).

AIRSTREAM is still doing fine under THOR. There is difference between being a wholly owned subsidiary or a division of, which is what happened with SUNNYBROOK.

Here is part of the article about the buyout from THOR'S CEO:

"You know, we don’t manage from the top down. We manage from the bottom up, and we really want to be there to watch them continue to grow and do the things they want to do with their business.”

I don't think you will see any negatives coming from it, in fact things may get better since their finances will be better.

Maybe it'll be alright. I just like family owned businesses that are all about the product and refuse to sell for any amount of money. Guess those days are going away.

I can honestly say when I bought mine after having 2 Sunnybrook's, it had nothing to do with who owned the company.

All to do with the floor plan reputation and price. The reputation can change but I hope it does not.

Nope don't think people read...they just think they are the first to post things.

Please don't rush to conclusions that you THINK might happen.

In the last few years JAYCO spent quite a bit of cash, bought the assets of TRAVEL SUPREME ( now the ENTEGRA and new DESIGNER). Had a massive expansion of the MH plant and bought OPEN RANGE as well as the company who did their full body paint. It might have been a situation where they needed an influx of cash to keep things at a good level and possibly make more improvements.

Thanks Crabman for consolidating the topic. Grumpy, excellent point on Airstream's success since the Thor acquisition.

I posed the question on the Precept owners forum wondering if, IN TIME, Thor may influence Jayco to discontinue their gas Class A line since the Jayco brand is better known for it's C Class, trailers & Entegra brand. Coupled with Thor's other brands that have a wide Class A portfolio, in a consolidated world, does do they really need the Precepts and Alantes?

Now, as a very satisfied Precept owner, I would not like to see this, however......

Lastly, this is a sign of the times. Many family owned businesses on their second or third generations, are looking for an exit strategy (and or additional capital & resources to stay competitive) and with crazy cheap money available (credit lines and private equity), while disappointing, this is not too surprising.

IMHO

I must confess I am one of the guilty ones. In my defense, however, I do not read all of the forums, just select ones of interest to me. I do read recent threads in my selected forums before starting new ones though. There is only so much time in a day.

I was one of those who started a later thread on the subject. I spend quite a bit of time on the forum and just had not run across it. I'm not inclined to do a search every time I want to start a thread. I'd expect multiple threads on any subject this important.
