Smile Tornado Disaster Relief

Sitting in Dadeville AL, on generator, church parking lot, still no power in area from tornado that went through last night. We (the DW and me) are with Alabama Disaster Relief teams doing chainsaw, blue tarp work (volunteer) for the folks hit. Our last called out duty run was Tuscaloosa last year.

This one is not nearly as bad, EF2 tornado vs EF4 in Tuscaloosa. Also this is more rural area so far less dense populated area. But the ones that got hit, it is a disaster. The DW talked with couple this afternoon that lost everything but their front porch. So sad but .... they were such positive people. Still going through thier place trying to salvage a little of their stuff but they were talking about being blessed. They have their life, their health, so much to look forward to, they can replace their stuff.

It is amazing to me how some people handle tragedy so positively. Others are holding out their hand wanting the government to fixx their issue right now! They never experience what Jesus said in Acts 20: 35 “It is more blessed to give than receive.” Thank you Lord for all the givers in the world!

God bless you for the work you are doing, and our prayers are with all those affected by those terrible storms in so many states.

I would be right there with you if I didn't have a bad back. But when we were hit here at my home base 5 weeks ago and the entire town was without electricity, I provided hot coffee for anyone who showed up and it didn't take long for the word to get out. One rescue worker said the directions he was given to the coffee was "go that way until you see the lights on on the left". That was good enough for me.

Bless ya brother. I have worked with Baptist association feeding units in various places, farthest being St. Genevieve, Mo. during the floods of 91. We also did construction work in New Orleans area on a good many trips after Katrina.

It is a good thing to give your time and talents to those in need.

It's truly wonderful when a community pulls together after a destructive storm. You are the best of the best.

Thanks for all the kind comments. All of you can also get involved in your home areas. Plenty of volunteer opportunities! The common thing I have found about the RV community is you all are good people.

Agreed, if everyone does some community service, the world would be a great place. Our big thing is the Scouting program.
