Tracking Amazon Packages..

How you ever ordered anything from Amazon and tracked the package from its origin?
They sure take a round about way ....I think that they could save me a bunch of time of they just dropped my package out of the jet as it flies over my house....

It's become disgusting how non Amazon Prime members receive no priority and it can take over 7 days for an order to show up for non-Prime customers. If you are not an Amazon Prime member you are always last on the list.
Walmart's web site sucks but their prices are competitive and their stores are convenient for returns.

Once you have Prime you will never go back - especially for us since we live on an acreage. Some things I can order up to 1am on Saturday and get Sunday for free!

Here is what happens to me:

(remember, I live in El Paso Texas..far west Texas)

Order product
Watch the package shipping
Package leaves California so far, so good
Package goes to Phoenix so far so good
Package then goes to St. Louis, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, then to El Paso.:face palm:

WTF?
Why not from Phoenix just to El Paso which is an hour and a half away via plane?

We in Phoenix do not allow Amazon packages to go directly to El Paso.

All depends on what planes they have (or have contracted with), where they are going at the time, and what is already scheduled to be loaded. The software they use is very sophisticated to sort out the balancing act between "fastest" and "most economical (for them)". It may be far more cost effective to take a roundabout route using already committed aircraft, than it would be to pay a premium for a small load on a direct flight.

Amazon is in the process of starting it's own airline to avoid situations that you are describing.

They use the hub and spoke distribution system just like every airline in America, fed ex, USPS, all do it. I'll never give up my prime membership. I don't care if they fly my package to the moon as long as it lands on my doorstep within the promised delivery window. Out of thousands of packages, the only time I've had a late delivery was when the order wasn't fulfilled by Amazon directly or it was an 'act of God event' like a major road closure. I'm definitely a fan.

Not to mention that delivery is free on a lot of items.

I didn't realize there were non-prime members.

We have been using prime for years, beyond the shipping all the other benefits are great too. We especially like the streaming services bundled with prime.

If they ship via the dreaded "smart post" the package can take the long way around and get stuck for awhile as well. Used to run into that before we had Prime. Of course not all items are Prime items either.

USPS has stepped up their game a lot recently. The stuff that's promised by Sunday is shipped/delivered by USPS.

Ditto. I can't recall what we bought, but we got 3 months of Prime for free for some purchase. Once I realized that I could buy any $6 item and have it shipped for free in 2 days I was hooked. We well get our money's worth out of Prime. I think we're in our 3rd year of Prime now.

Yeah I can't imagine not having Prime. It only takes a few packages showing up in 2 days with free shipping on Sunday's to realize it's worth every penny. I love the people who tell me they can get it $5 cheaper at Wal-Mart or some box store. Maybe you can, but I never left the house, spent the gas money and my time roaming the store and sitting in a checkout line, that is worth $5 to me. I use the Subscribe and Save option, now I have everything I'd usually have to run into town to get delivered to my doorstep every 3 months (paper towels, toilet paper, dish soap, etc). It to me is like my Sams Club or Costco but delivered to my doorstep anytime I please.

We've been Prime members since almost the very beginning. And I wouldn't trade it for anything. We live in a small rural community, so we don't have a lot of "brick & mortar" stores readily available. Prime has allowed us to get basically whatever we need, and fast. We might have to drive 30-40 minutes (one way) to "shop" items at a store, and there's no guarantee they'll have it. With Prime, I can just have it shipped right away. I think it's safe to say they've lost money on us.

And I also love the streaming services, and we use the Kindle app on our iPads for E-books. This is great since we don't have cable available in our area, and I gave satellite the boot years ago.

When they raised the membership cost recently, I was like "psh, whatever."

I've given up on online ordering for critical items. Anything from anywhere takes 3-5 business days. Tracking or not.

If I absolutely must have something today or tomorrow. There are plenty of stores within my normal travels to buy it and have it in my hands right then and there.

Obsolete parts for obscure equipment can only be secured online. Love it!

But if I need ten 1/4 -20 x 1" stainless steel or galvanized bolts with matching nuts, you'll find me at Tractor Supply on my next ride home from work. Oh, and the lock-washers!
