Tractor Pull - who will win?

New 850 H.P. John Deere diesel , against a
classic steam tractor rated 18 H.P.
Who will win?
Hint: low end torque is king.

With the rubber tires on the steamer it did not even have full traction.

It's all about torque, traction and weight.

Due to the hitch angle, as the steam tractor applies force it is essentially lifting the rear wheels of the superstock. The Farmall C is only rated at around 19 horsepower but it can certainly outwork your average 20hp lawn tractor. The PTO on your lawn tractor could never even get a hay baler to move let alone run it and pull a hay wagon behind it through a hilly field.

In any tractor pull - as the dead weight slides up the sled - the loose dirt inhibits traction. The superstock was dead on traction to move a load of that weight before the match started
