Trekking trip!

Hi all,
Me and my sister are planning a trip next month. We have planned to go for trekking. We asked one of my friends about the best places for trekking and he suggested us to go to Duck mountain provincial park. We heard that it would be safe to wear hard caps during trekking. So we thought of buying one. I then searched online for it and found this https://shop.mistersafetyshoes.com/collections/hardhats. Need to know whether we would get it at a cheaper rate than this? Also, I would love to hear your trekking experiences.

Um I have no idea where you are. Canada is pretty big..
Nor why you need a hard hat for trekking. Rock climbing requires a helmet that can be secured with straps

I have backpacked in the Adirondacks and the White Mountains of NH and Maine but not into cliff climbing..

I looked up Duck Mt and it seems that while it has hiking its limited.. and nary a cliff to be found.

What kind of trekking are you talking about? Park the camper in a nice CG and go for day hikes along nice well used trials, or are you talking about getting off the beaten path? Most places the average person “hikes” you will not need a helmet. Have you pulled up maps and talked with the local guides/park offices? Sounds like more planning is required. If you are not familiar with hardcore trekking I would recommend locating a guide service and they will provide all the required gear.

The real question; is the person you spoke with, are they pulling your leg??

I have done a lot of mountaineering when I was younger and only a few times would a helmet would be truly required. Usually a helmet is required when you are concerned about falling debris from above. Typically rock climbing with full ropes and harnesses.

Google ”Rock Climbing Helmet” This would be the style helmet you would want in the backcountry.

Good Luck, I hope you have a fabulous time.

I have to ask this as well. If you're doing rock climbing and need a helmet, odds are you know what sort of helmet since others will be wearing the same. At the very least the places you buy your other climbing gear would carry the right sort of helmets. The hard hats you posted are perfect if you're going to to the park to do work as part of a construction crew. Otherwise they are only good for someone that is trying to pull a fast one by getting you to go hiking through the forest in a hard hard.

Sounds like someone is pulling an early April fools joke on those two.

I had to google "Trekking". At first I thought it had something to do with Capt. Kirk.

Agreed, those hats are construction, if you're in Canada then look up MEC, Mountain Equipment Coop, the have all the right stuff for trekking, mountain climbing, rappelling, kayaking, and pretty much anything outdoors. If you really need helmets, then look for something made by Petzl, or one of their competitors, black diamond is a great resource for trekking poles, caribiners, ropes and hardware.

Like others have mentioned, don't get fooled into using equipment that you don't need. And do some research to see what the right equipment to get. The proper equipment may cost more, but it is lighter, stronger, and time tested for safety.

Most of all, get out and enjoy
