Worked some more on my TT brake rebuild project. I finally found a machine shop that has the capability of turning the brake drum armature (magnet) surface. They charge $35 for each drum! And in addition to that, another $15 each to turn the braking surfaces.

Just ordered 4 new Dexter 10" X 5 x 4-1/2" hub/drum assemblies, which include new bearings, races and seals. $50 each, same as turning the old drums would cost.

This job is getting easier (and more expensive) all the time! Should have all the parts - new tires, electric brake assemblies, drums, bearings and seals - by the end of the week.

I have never been a fan of turning drums or discs on anything. Turning makes them thinner and less able to dissipate heat. They then get hotter and warp. I definitely agree new drums is he way to go.

Today is the first of the month and I just switched my water heater and Norcold to propane for the day and am running my Onan for an hour under load. After the generator run I will refill the gas tank with non-ethanol gas with stabilizer. I have been using the same gas since early spring and it is low enough and we are still in hurricane season I want to be prepared for when the power goes out.

Cleaned both a/c filters as well.

Ordered new La Z Boy Pinnacle couch and rocker for our new 2016 Pinnacle because the factory stuff just doesn't cut the mustard.

I had the same problem with water in our jack head, discovered out of warranty. The company did give us a discount on a new jack. First thing I did was to buy a jack cover for around $12 much cheaper than a new jack and so far it appears to be working well.

Thanks Ed. And since the new drums come with all new bearing kits I was able to return the 4 bearing kits I purchased (about $50 total).

Lots of little things

I ordered tires, inspired by SmokerBill I looked for Maxis but could not get through Discount Tire in my area, my other tire shop guy recommended Hercules tire, made by Cooper in GA, he's ran them for 2 years on a race car trailer thing and never had a problem. Went with D load for a bit extra capacity.

Removed old flooring in entire TT, filled holes where table poles went, filled small holes with filler, painted floor, the put down sticky Armstrong tiles. Took quite a while with all the cuts, but got it done. Now putting on Oak floor molding, have to find a proper stain. The oak molding nearly cost as much as the flooring, but I am not sure I need as much as I bought.

Putting toilet back down, caulk, etc.

Ordered patio mat and some other junk....

Not sure if I'm going to take wheels off to get tires, or haul the whole thing over there. I have tons of tools and stuff, but seems awkward to jack up all 4. Read owners manual and searched on it but most say drop front, lower stabilizer jack under back, raise front, then use floor jack under the leaf spring mount. But still sort of a pain to get them all off, but was going to paint them before they swapped tires. Anyway getting ready for labor day!

$400 total., free shipping, for 5 $112 tires. There was a $100 rebate on the tires, and I opened a new Discount Tire credit card account and used it to buy the tires, which gave me another $60 rebate.

I love free money, especially when it makes the cost of things closer to where they were when I was younger. LOL

My new set of 5 Maxxis 205-75-15 tires arrived via UPS this morning. Pulled the TT wheels, took 'em to Discount Tire, and had them mount the Maxxis tires. Goodbye Marathons!

I had the tires mounted in two batches- two the first trip, then three on the second trip. First trip, the tech went ahead and balanced them for free! Second batch, the tech wasn't quite so generous. However he gave me a bargain price, $20 bucks for balancing 3 tires. Mounting the tires was free, and the new valve stems were $4 each.

Bought new lock washers and nuts for my new brake assembly install project. Made up a little homebrew penetrant (WD-40 and transmission fluid) and painted it on the nuts that hold the brake assembly plate to the axle. Broke all the nuts loose and retightened them just to be sure I'm won't be dealing with any frozen nuts when I do my install.

Brake drums will be here tomorrow. Still need to buy a can of Brake Kleen to remove any protective coating from the new drums, and a handful of waterproof electrical connectors for the brake wiring. It's going to be a fun project.

Found out this last trip the valve is leaking on my AquaMagic Style 2 porcelain toilet. AARG, I hate working on that kind of stuff, but it will get done.

What Did You Do To Your Jayco TODAY?

Installed a Sleep Number RV king in the bedroom. Had to cut a 1"x 3" hole in the top of the bed frame. Can't wait to try it out this next week.
