That's embarassing, I wouldn't know where to put myself if that happened to me. I hope you were wearing flip flops. I'll definitely watch out for that one NHcamper.

Mine was actually this weekend, our maiden voyage... And DW got one too!

Hers was leaving a jug of water in a milk crate in the way of the slide while running it out. Popped a couple pieces of trim off. I was able to tap them back on well enough, no permanent damage.

Mine was leaving for our first trip without checking the tire pressure (the dealer checked that right? WRONG!). I towed the whole trip thinking it was too hard on the truck, but I was towing into a pretty strong head wind so didn't really get too worried. On the way home it was just as bad, and was still towing into the wind. I was formulating the discussion with DW about getting a bigger truck. Got it in the driveway and checked the tires, and the LEAST under inflated tire was 10 lbs low!

Seriously!! ALWAYS check the tires!! I knew better, but it happened anyway...

I'm sure there will be more...

Two months now. I'm thinking they found a cure for boneheadness.

I guess I'll bite.

1) Maiden voyage, and we forgot the leveling blocks. I decide we can move forward a couple feet, and won't need them. Move forward, and hear scraping. I had trusted my wife to put the stabs up on the passenger side. Apparently she didn't think they had to go all the way up just to move it a little. Miffed about the bent stab, I go inside to put the slide out, and hear cracking. Apparently my 6 yr old had left the bunk ladder out. It pulled a piece of trim off that I fixed with the finish stapler, and wood glue when we got back.

3) Leaving from home in a hurry, because I want to get to the dealership before they close. I pull to the end of our street, and make the left onto the 11% grade going down the hill(we live on the benches). I notice the trailer is really pushing on me, and the brake controller says no connection. Work the truck down to 1st gear with clever brake work, and make it to the bottom of the half mile hill without killing anyone. Pull over, and the 7-pin is barely inserted into the receptacle.

4) Rushing out to a campsite on BLM land with zero lights, pavement, or amenities for our last trip before winter storage. It starts raining about half way there. I don't want to send my wife out to spot in the cold rain, and I don't even notice an 8' juniper bush on my side. 10' scar on the driver's side, and got a $900 quote to fix it. Will probably have it fixed next year before we take it out the first time. I'm embarrassed every time I see it.

Nothing to report YET - we're new to camping so I'm sure they're coming. I must say though, checklists have grown after reading through these.

Yes, you can be sure there coming but hopefully just minor ones. Something to chuckle about later.

Nope, there's no cure for bonehead, must be just the season slowing down...

My boneheaded moment is this. We were driving around in the Olympic peninsula in Washington state near the ocean. I had a 2004 Jayco JayFlight 29BHS (about 36' long) and a 2004 Chevrolet 1 ton Silverado long box crew cab 4x4 pickup truck. I turned down a narrow road and ended up on the beach! I stopped on the hard pan before the pavement ended. The wind was blowing hard and my DW didn't want to get out to help me back out. I could have backed out the entry road eventually but that wasn't doable without help. So my plan was to drive straight onto the beach wet sand and then swing around right back onto the road. Well I got turned around fine and got within 25' of the road and sunk my truck up to the axles in the sand! The trailer tires sunk in but not up to the axles. At first I figured that I would put a few boards under the tires to get out. No luck. A bunch of people in 4x4s had collected around me spectating as I tried to figure out what to do. BTW no one offered to help! Finally I decided to disconnect the trailer from the truck and get the truck out and try to figure out what to do then. As soon as I disconnected the trailer the truck easily came out of the hole I dug. I backed the truck onto large boards I had in the bed of the truck and then reconnected. I cranked up the WD bars very tight but the trailer was still stuck. Finally a family was driving by in a 4x4 and stopped to help me. He had shovels and came and helped me dig out the trailer tires. Mind you the tide was coming in at this point and was actually washing under the trailer but not up to the tires yet! My new plan was to back the trailer up without getting it into the surf to allow me to get the truck onto hard sand. That worked and I was able to get off the beach! I drove to the nearest town and spent over an hour pressure washing the truck and trailer off because the sand was everywhere! It would have been fine if I had jackknifed the trailer onto the beach but still kept the truck on hard sand but that would have required some help. Oh well at least only my ego was damaged!
