It's been the same for every one of the 6 RVs we've had over the last 30 years: the moment we signed on the dotted line.

Howdy,
First voyage. Put 42’ in a lot I should not have, in the dark. Perfect.

Leaving in the daylight, rubbed a tree, damaged 20’ awning and roof...

Similar thing with my boat. First time I parked it in the side yard, it was dark, I was alone, and I'd had a couple cold ones. Nailed it perfect, right on target, first try, didn't hit a thing, took me about 5 minutes.

Haven't been able to do it since. In the daylight, sober as a priest on Sunday, DW spotting for me, and I still can't get it as perfect as that first time!!

A permanent electrical hookup is a beautiful thing.

If you attempt to drive off without verifying that electrical hookup is disconnected..............well let's not talk about such unpleasant things.

Got too comfortable with setting up once on site the other day, wife departed
to go do an errand, I was finishing up after a tough backing in onto
wheel runners for the site... have a 43ft FW, got the trailer up off the hitch..
and didn't pull the trailer power cord from the truck before moving forward...
not long before I heard the disconnect though...good thing not much damage
done... ugh

I've been full-time for about five years now. Done all the usual wrong things.Left the steps out, forget to put the antenna down, not plug the seven way in all the way....
My best one is when I was heading to the Everglades last year for Christmas, I laid over at Walmart Overnight. Pulled out a side entrance to a not busy road made a right as it straightened up I looked out the drivers mirror and guess what I saw? I forgot to put the slide in duh. That was a first for me and hopefully the last !!!

Been there, done that! And DW has caught it a couple of more times before I tried to pull away.

When towing 4 down make sure you put the car in park before unhooking. NUF SED.

My future bonehead will be continuing my subscription to RV Magazine, formerly Trailer Life and Motorhome, unless they improve it to the quality of the former publications!

It seems like when I was younger I did bonehead things on purpose. Now it's usually by accident.

By far, my most boneheaded moment involved flushing the black tank. My then wife and I were packing up to go home. We had two small children. I had installed a tornado rinser on our black tank. I had it hooked up and was rinsing the black tank, as we were at a full hookup site. As a general rule I stand there and watch it so that nothing bad happens. I had closed the black tank valve to give it some volume. Being that we had small children I got distracted or probably got asked to do something by my then wife. A few minutes later, she said, Larry? There is a leak in the bathroom. I went inside and saw water on the floor. I opened the toilet lid to see if there was water leaking there somehow and hit the foot pedal. Blackwater blew up into my face and generally covered me and my head. It was a mess. However to my knowledge there were no long term effects to the camper, which is of course more important than any long-term effects on me.

forgot about awning

Just went camping at Watkins Glen, NY. We left the campsite late morning on a Monday and we were pretty much the only RV left. As we left we heard a loud bang as I passed a tree.....forgot to bring the awning in before we pulled out. It's damaged but still functional. I'm sure it will be a costly error to have fixed.

Not really a camper error but related. We drove about an hour to a campground and got completely set up. We then realized that I had left my CPAP machine at home. I have severe sleep apnea and really can't sleep without it. And my snoring is horrendous. So we drove all the way back home with small children and then back to the campground just to pick up my CPAP machine.

Don't feel to bad, My wife and I were on a week long mission trip to North Carolina and when we arrived and set up, we realized we forgot to bring our toiletries. Off to Walmart to spend almost $100 bucks on tooth paste, shampoo....etc.

A couple of years ago I managed to forget packing any pants for the week and half trip to southern Utah and arrived with just the pair I was wearing. Fortunately there is a great Levis store in downtown Kanab. They have such a great selection of sizes that I have made it a habit now to get my new jeans there since we make that trip regularly.

Forgot my shoes once; was wearing my boots when we left. Went to WM and got a pair of "beaters" that now live in the camper all the time. I tried to survive that trip without, but the Teva sandals I keep in the rig are somewhat comfy for around the campsite, but walking the dog for 2 miles plus had me hurting pretty bad. I keep at least two sets of clothes in the camper, head to toe, cold and hot, just in case I forget something. And now I keep a couple different kinds of shoes in there too...

Thankfully I haven't forgotten my CPAP (I have severe apnea as well). I've forgotten all sorts of things, but never that. If they weren't so dang expensive, I'd probably keep one in the camper... Thankfully (?) DW has it pretty bad too, so we remind each other before we leave.

Plenty of trips to WM or wherever to pick up various sundries though. Even though we keep the camper relatively well stocked with basics. Even had to pick up a couple movies here and there when we forgot our DVD wallet...

I used to get severe anxiety about forgetting stuff, it's taken much of my life to get over that. I figure if I forget something, it's no big deal. I can usually just go buy whatever it is I need. So I make absolutely sure the things I can't just go pick up get packed, and try not to worry too much about the rest.

2006, first big outing with the new Wildcat 5th wheel. Heading to Sandusky OH to roller coaster with the kids. We pulled through a toll booth and with the camper our ticket came out up top like we were a semi truck. I had to open my door to stand and get the ticket. No big deal pay and on our way. Well I had my shoes off driving comfortably and when we arrived at our next stop I could only find one shoe. (they were brand new for the trip) It took about 5 minutes to figure out in my head were it was.....back at the toll booth about 150 miles....Grrrr. Had no choice to stop and get new shoes. 15 years later I still hear about it.....
