Lee, on that car I think the wheels really make it a finished product. I was truely an Ambassador fan but I liked the Javelins and AMX's too. I am afraid that the shape of that particular car is something that only an owner could love.

Well I can see your point on the Ambassador, neat looking car,
And I agree that the Pacer is FINISHED, but once again that word is up for interpretation.

I was with the Calgary Police Service in the early 70's when we changed out our fleet to Ramblers Ambassadors, which had two different engines and I forgot what they were. These cars came with power steering and air but someone made the brilliant decision to remove the power steering and the air and then they put sandbags in the trunk to compensate and also left a big hole in the dash by taking out the air. When they came up for replacement they sold very few at auction and had to scrap most of them.

In 1968, the Ambassador had the distinction of being the first U.S. automobile made in volume that was equipped with air conditioning as standard equipment. Only Rolls-Royce and some sports car manufacturers had this offering.

I always wanted a Mercury pickup. The Fargo was a neat rig too. :hihi:

Here is a link to American Motors. Lee, I do believe that they made one uglier than the Pacer. Check out the Gremlins.
You have to scroll down to the pics.

For what it's worth, a Bloomberg/Businessweek survey did pick the Pacer as the worst designed car of all times. http://images.businessweek.com/ss/07...s/index_01.htm

I am at last vindicated in my thinking!

1991 two door Geo Metro. It was a 5 speed manual, but only had 3 cylinders. 40+ mpg. Wish I still had that car today to drive to and from work. It was blue and I called it the smurf mobile.

I almost bought a Geo Metro after my divorce. I couldn't get anyone's attention at the stealership so I went elsewhere and bought a Ranger instead.
Now, the original Metros were ugly enough to be cute.

1963 Volkswagen (Blinkengerber). Gas gauge was introduced in 1962 model. That was one modern piece of transportation.

Wow, some of y'all had very, very nice cars. My first was a 1968 Ford Galaxie 500 four door sedan. 390 FE engine, FX automatic tranny and a gorgeous white vinyl interior. I learned all of my automotive knowledge on this car with my dad teaching me but, sadly, I sold her in December '03.
By the way, Lady Fitzgerald, it's funny you say that about the Marlins. I've always wanted a '65 or '66 (one of my stranger dream cars alongside a Plymouth Superbird).

Different strokes for different folks. I always thought the '64Studebaker Hawk GTs and the Avanti were pretty cool, especially with the supercharged engine.

Those Studes are pretty neat cars. Around here, though, the folks like to put Chevy 350s in 'em.
