Yes. I live in a suburban area and always give away candy. Plus, as trick or treaters get fewer and fewer, there's more candy left over for me. Grin.

I buy candy to pass out but no one comes to our house because we live at the bottom of a hill and there are no sidewalks -- but I am ready just in case!

If we are home, we will give out candy. Our neighborhood is SUPER small though, and there aren't a lot of kids. But we still buy a bag of our favorite candy and give away what we can. We eat a bunch of the leftovers and put the rest in our office candy bowl.

We will probably take our son out to "trick-or-treat" this year, but we are never surprised if the neighbors don't have candy to give out. And we are doing it more to visit with our neighbors and show off our kid's costume anyway, so the candy doesn't matter. Some of them feel super guilty for not having anything, and we can't tell them enough to not worry about it, we just wanted to come by and visit.

Parents used to bus their kids into the neighborhood where we used to live. We had to get LOTS of candy back in those days. Seeing the kids costumes is always a treat for us. It's annoying though when the teenagers come out later with a grocery bag and in their regular clothes. That's when we turn off the light and call it a night.

Our town has an event where people gather at the local fair-grounds and basically tail-gate in the parking lot. Parents bring their kids and walk up and down the parking rows and people hand out candy. I know it sounds creepy, but it's really not. There's usually a big turnout, and it's a safe place for kids to be.

No, we live in way too rural an area. First year in the house I tried to take my kids trikertreating in the 'neighborhood'. Too much walking. One family was home - no candy.

Subsequent years I drove them into the nearest village. One year is was so warm that evening, people were on their front stoops, children all over the place! That was a wonderful festival.

The in-laws come over to our house and hand out candy, while we take the kiddos out. Halloween has become my least favorite holiday since my youngest (8) was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 2 years ago! So I pay her a quarter for every piece of candy she gets...she cleaned me out last year!

Amen to the kids "trick or treating" with no costumes. They usually say they are doing it for a sick brother or sister.... yeah, uh huh. I also get adults as well doing this. So in order to not get tee-peed or soaped, I give in. We also get kids bussed in as well. I guess we're one of the "safe" neighborhoods.

We usually do. It's a big party in my neighborhood. Everybody puts their fire pits (portable of course) and coolers in their driveway. The kids trick-or-treat and we have hot drinks or even beer for the parents. They close our street down at either end so the kids can go where ever they want without fear of being hit by a car. Good time.

We have a Fall festival at our church every Oct 31.

Open to the neighborhood in lieu of Halloween. We have games/ treats and Fire Dept truck tours, etc and plenty of hot dogs and treats. All free.

We man a booth there so we do not have to buy anything for the house. All lights are off means don't knock.

Now when the kids were young it was different but it was a different era.

I usually don't get home from work until after the kids start coming around, so that task falls to DW. She has peanut allergies so she buys the nut-free chocolate and hands those out. If there's any left, it's ours!

I'll be shelling out all the candy that we haven't already eaten...

We used to live a couple of blocks from a couple of "City Living" (subsidised) high-rise apartment buildings that did not allow TorT, so we would get inundated with kids by the hundreds. Have since moved to a quieter neighborhood where we might get 20-30 kids now.

We do the candy thing, too. Our current neighborhood has a reputation for giving out the "good stuff", so they come by the car load. I do make sure we get the stuff WE like, so leftovers don't last long afterwards. Sometimes (ok, most of the time) I have to sample, to make sure it's alright for the kiddies.

We usually give out Tootsie Pops. Not a family favorite - makes this a much more waist friendly proposition BUT this year we are going to be camping over the 31st and I'm wondering what to expect. We'll be staying at a COE park and I'm betting there may be some trick or treaters.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

Yes, we will be prepared with candy. However we don't know what to expect this year. We have built a new house in a new semi-rural neighborhood. Being that the neighborhood is still very much under construction and the density is that of a more typical neighborhood in this area I suspect we won't be the "hot spot" for Trick or Treat'rs.

Our previous house was in a hot spot neighborhood. We had 100's of costumed visitors. And like was mentioned previously, it was a neighborhood party. Everyone was out front with fire pits and coolers. It was a very festive night. The best part, since everyone was outside, there was very little trouble with smashing pumpkins or wild drivers.

Yep, I believe in this fun American Tradition. We carve pumpkins each year and give out something each year (candy or glow necklaces). We set a canopy up at the end of the driveway and decorate it. But if you come to my house you better be ready to say "trick or treat" or we will have a staring contest and you won't win.........

We have camped out at a couple of RV parks ( Resorts) that had activities for kids and adults. the CG had a hot dog meal for all and the adults had a scavenger hunt in the cg. There were some trick or treaters for a while.
