Will you travel or already be there to see the total eclipse on 8/21/2017?

Great American Eclipse
Millions of Americans will see the sight of a lifetime on August 21, 2017 when a rare total solar eclipse sweeps the nation from Oregon to South Carolina. Day turns to night for two minutes and the sky's most beautiful spectacle, the Sun's corona, reveals itself in grandeur.

Total solar eclipse of Aug 21, 2017, the Great American Eclipse

We also live in the path of the eclipse so we'll just step out the back door.

We are camping at Hawn State Park in Missouri. Don't forget your shades!

I answered "Yes", but with a qualifier. We won't be camping for the event. We live just a couple of hours south of the path of totality, and we have a friend who lives just 15 miles from dead center, so we will be taking a road trip with another couple that day to view the event. Already have my eclipse glasses.

We were planning on it, but without having access to private land up in Wyoming, it's just too big of a hassle. Everything in the Grand Teton's national park was booked up a year ago. You can't even find a motel in that area for that day.

It sounds like too many people are making big plans for that weekend / following monday for it to be all that enjoyable for us. I imagine traffic is going to be really BAD that weekend and all the parks are going to be clogged and over booked. Not to be a pessimist... but we'll just watch the less than ideal eclipse as it happens here at home.

Best thing for us is that except for right around Lake McConaughy, we'll be mostly on country roads with little more than farm traffic. No other real destination around where we'll be, some 20 miles north of there.

Our son owns 39 acres in Wyoming right along its path, so we'll be gathering for a family reunion campout. Casper, Wyoming hotels have been booked for months. Although it's a spectacular opportunity, if we weren't going to the family's property, we would not have gone out of our way to see it. I'm sure in Casper, Pinedale, Jackson, etc. it will be a madhouse of crazy people.

We'll already be there! We made reservations at Coneross Park in South Carolina. We're arriving Wednesday Aug 16 and leaving the following Wednesday. Hopefully we'll be before and after the traffic gets congested. We've never been there before, but it looks very nice. It's part of the Hartwell Lake area built by the U.S. Corps of Engineers. It's right at the center of the path of totality. There are still plenty of campsites available. I'd love to hear from anyone who's camped there before.
