Yet another Hurricane to deal with for OBX and others

Arthur is up to 70 mph and expected to strengthen to a Cat 1 shortly. Bad news for the Outer Banks on the busiest tourism/camping weekend of the year. Some campgrounnds there closed at noon today. What a nightmare that must be if you are a long ways from home, have to leave your camp site and everything on the mainland will likely be booked for the holiday weekend. Bad for the campgrounds as well with the lost revenue. Looks like we will just get a glance from it here on the Va. shore, thankfully. All in harms way please be careful and stay safe.

And this time of year it's hard to get reservations anywhere so it's hard to change plans. We used to keep our camper at Myrtle Beach and have to worry about that, now we are in eastern CO and worry about tornado's and hail.

Come South to Florida. After listening to three days of impending doom from local media, the Weather Channel camped out for two days on the East Central Coast, we didn't get squat in the way of weather, and that's fine. But, bring your sunscreen and brewskis. Gonna be mid to upper 90's courtesy of Arthur's 'backside'.

For the OBX check out the Wright Brothers museum/memorial, Jockey`s Ridge SP sand dune (HUGE), Lighthouses at Bodie Island and Cape Hatteras, and take a ferry to Ocracoke Island if time permits..

For Norfolk I recommend Nauticus including the battleship Wisconsin, Waterside which is a diverse collection of food and shops. Norfolk/Hampton roads traffic can be a pain, especially around tunnels, avoid rush hours if possible. A trip up I64 west to Jamestown/Yorktown/Williamsburg would be great also. And of course trip across the CBBT to the Eastern Shore and Kiptopeke SP would be a treat.

I'm in Texas...the wife is a traveling nurse. As I type this...at 8:49pm Eastern time, the eyewall of this hurricane is about 50 miles from my house...and closing in. I'm sweating it.

This is a picture of the last time we stayed in OBX.I believe it was 2 years ago the summer after the Hatteras KOA was allready devastated from a storm the previous summer and they were just beginning to rebuild....
Just to let you know....after a bit of reflection about life and what to do with me and my 2 grand daughters...seems the funnel cloud dissapeared!!!!!!!

My home is near Cape Lookout. We came out ok. Lost some shingles, some siding, and a few boards off our dock. Much better than we expected and much better than the northern OBX did.
