^^ Accurate depiction of my morning Friday. I went out for awhile but the wind and rain turned me around by 730...

Unfortunately I`m resurrecting this thread, wish I was not:

Well here we go again, the latest track has Joaquin heading right up the Chesapeake bay. The governor just declared a state of emergency for Virginia. I still have not gotten over Sandy yet from 2012.

As am I. I'm sitting in a hotel in Smithfield VA, working tomorrow then plan to drive back to NC tomorrow night. So far looks like it is going to be a very wet commute...

Fortunately, it's not another Sandy. Nor 1999 Floyd.

The three worst storms I can remember here and all of which caused damage to my business were Gloria 1985, Floyd 1999 and Sandy 2012. We also had minor brushes with Isabel and Irene, although the western side of the bay got nailed on those.

It does not look good for the east coast of the Carolina's folks. It has this storm hitting the east coast, and stalling there for 24 to 48 hours. Last I heard, they said 20 to 30 inches of rain could dump into already full rivers and lakes up there.

We are all hoping for the best for you folks.

When Sandy hit us here in the Maryland area, it was actually a Tropical storm. If Joaquin stays strong and heads Northwest inland, it'll still be A Cat. 1 hurricane. Potentionally worse than Sandy.

Thankfully the track has changed and Joaquin is heading out to sea. Still a nasty time here with rain wind and coastal flooding. Schools closed.

I heard that as well last night. Good that it won't be a head on hit for anyone at the east coast.
The Bahama's are not going to fair well. They are at most, 10 to 12 feet above sea level, and this storm is causing the seas to swell 12 to 14 feet.

Must be a nightmare for the Bahamas, it has sat there now for several days and strengthened.

While terrible to say this, I will ... I'm glad it's going your way and not mine. I think it was in 2008 when we had to run away from three storms within 2-3 months.

Hope everyone escapes with just memories of a big inconvenience.

I don't bother with the ice. Backup genset and a spare to keep the beer in the fridge cold.

Been watching the radar and updates on the weather channel for several days now. SC sure has been in the crosshairs of all that rain. Here tidal flooding and high winds are the issue, we only got 2 or 3 inches of rain so that is a non issue here.
