BBQ Innovations
It's been stinking hot here for the past week and a half - the last thing I wanted to do was actually cook in the house and add to the heat, so....
Let's see... I've cooked every meal during this heat-wave on the BBQ, including:
Stir-fried chicken & veggies
Spaghetti and Meatballs (spaghetti on the side-burner, just to clarify!)
Corn-on-the-cob, steak & grilled spuds
Beautiful chuck-roast, wild rice & spinach
Whole Chicken with grilled zucchini
Brochettes
Tender, sweet, tangy and oh so tender ribs
(and the coup-de-grace)...Meat pie using all the leftover meat!
We BBQ all year 'round - no matter the weather or temperature. There's nothing like a tender steak when the snow's knee deep & the temps hovering around -25! Equally so, when it's so hot the A/C can hardly keep up!
Anyone else try the 'unusual' on the BBQ...something other than simply grilling the meat?

We BBQ most nights. At the house, we have a gas grill outside and a Jenn Air grill/stove inside. At then RV (it's parked at our seasonal site at a Lake), we have a charcoal grill and we discovered a gas grill in one of the storage compartments.
I couldn't even tell you the last time I used an oven for cooking our dinner...Although, I will use the crock pot.
I made bacon wrapped shrimp a couple weeks ago on the charcoal grill...it was a little labor intensive because you had to flip each shrimp individually..but, they were so worth it.

Unusual ?? Well, my favorite way to make Quesadillas is on the grill ... Take a large tortilla, spread cheese, diced cooked meat of any kind (chicken is my fav), sliced green onions, cilantro and a little salsa - fold over and brush lightly with olive oil and sprinkle outside of tortilla with a little chili powder .... grill until browns and cheese melts. The BBQ gives the tortilla a beautiful charred taste along with the Mexican flavor.. Quick - easy - and delicious.

Good cooking. We too use our gas grill almost every day of the year. I have a charcoal one too, but it takes more planning ahead. Anything that can be cooked inside is usually done outside. We do not have central air conditioning so keeping the heat out of the house in the summer is critical.
As for odd things to grill. Most people think making taco’s on the grill is fairly unique.

Boy! Now you're really making me hungry! I've cooked a lot of things on the grill, but never a cake. That wins, in my book!
My three favorite things to cook are all cooked in the smoker, actually.
#3: Smoked Barbeque-rubbed Pork Ribs with potato salad & beans
#2: Smoked Pheasant with roasted red-skin potatoes and grilled asparagus
#1: Smoked Lake Michigan Salmon with Peanut Sauce, wild rice and grilled tomatoes
(Yes that's right, fish with peanut butter!) Uummm-uummm!

Hi, this is Mrs. Witt74, hijacking hubby's membership again, but I just HAD to put my two cents in here since I LOVE BBQing too. DH swears he could probably disconnect my kitchen range and I wouldn't notice for months.
Naturally, I BBQ all the "usual" stuff, hamburgers, hotdogs, steaks, etc. as well as fresh veggies. My latest BBQ is a CharGriller that has a gas side and a charcoal side and a smoke box attached. I too have made pizza on my grill and I've learned to smoke fish and we love grilled shrimp. Probably though my most ambitious undertaking was a pig.
I smoked him on the charcoal side and it worked great.

OMG. Your photo is almost unbelievable. 'Scuse my questions, but my idea of "cooking" is bringing home one of those roasted Costco chickens.
How long did it take to BBQ/smoke this guy and how much does he weigh? I'll bet it tastes great. This is way more impressive than all the posts about weight distribution hitches, leverlers, etc.
Nice job!

Thanks, as you can see by the date on the photo that was a couple of years back and I don't really remember how much he weighed. I think it was between 30 and 40#. It took most of the day, but it was a nice day and I had an excuse to sit outside and read all day. LOL

Prime Rib!
We go to Key West for Xmas week every year. I always cook a Prime Rib on Xmas Day. I use the high heat (500 degrees at 5/min/lb) to sear then low heat (285 degrees) method. Always comes out perfect. I spice with kosher salt, cracked black pepper, garlic, and rosemary. I cook it to medium rare and take it off at 130 degrees and let rest for 20 minutes before carving. I cut the bones off all in one piece after it has rested to make it easier to carve. I use my Grandmother's (RIP) 70 year old roasting pan to cook it in. She would be proud! We serve it with fresh asparagus, sauteed mushrooms, baked potatoes, and fresh ground horseradish on the side.

I agree, perfectly cooked.... just the way I like it, nice and pink but not bloody. Now I know what my next challenge will be... as soon as I get approved for the 2nd mortgage on the house so I can afford the prime rib.
