Camper Oven

We always cook either on the grill or stove. It is getting cool enough to use the inside oven but I have always been told that it doesn't really do a good job. We are also getting tired of the same old recipes everytime we go out.. Does anybody here have any good camper stove ideas?

I am familiar with putting a stone in the oven to help distribute the heat...

Oh, and let me add, seems like the best use so far for our oven has been transporting our wine bottles.. Works like a charm...

Thanks

Yea, the oven came in ours, we bought it off the lot. We would not have chosen an oven if we had custom ordered it, but I think it's part of the mandatory "customer convenience" package anyway for 2014 and newer.

We just made a pizza in ours last weekend. It worked fine. I can't see us using it more than once a year at most.

We store oven mits and stuff like that in ours.

I'm with you.. We really didn't want one either but had no choice.. It's no big deal really, just thought it would be nice to use an appliance that came with the camper is all.

We've never had an oven. Have had a stove but never used it. All of our cooking is always outdoors over a wood fire. If it's cold out, I'd rather put a coat on and go cook over the campfire than turn the stove on...But that's just us....

For us it's not about saving money. If I was worried about saving money, I'd still be tenting. It's about what's fun and being able to stuff that you don't/can't do at home. I love cooking breakfast over the fire while drinking my coffee. At night we light a fire anyway so why not use it to cook? We used to use a tripod but now I have one of these. Although we would use the stove top too if I could take it outside like you can with a PUP.

Never had a TT before, first night DW made a roast chicken dinner.

So good I was thinking about trying to get the TT oven in the house!

I do love to grill though, in the snow, in a parka when necessary.

When the weather is lousy we will often use our oven. We've made some pretty good casseroles and stuff in the oven. I am glad we have one. I only like to use the microwave for reheating and prefer to cook in the oven unless I am grilling outside.

I was surprised how good things come out when we use it. My little propane grill that came with the RV does a great job too. In fact, it usually does a better job than the big grill on my home deck. Go figure...

We do some cold weather camping also so our oven gets used. A tip I learned some time ago is to keep an old pizza stone or tile in there and the food will cook more evenly without burning.

because they are such low BTU's they cook the food slower which is better

Took mine out and moved the wave down so now we have more storage and counter space. Take my butane stove outside and also use the fire ring for meals. We eat out about 3-4 nights a week.

Dutch ovens work better with wood too. I'm not sure ours would even fit inside an RV oven. Using mountain pie irons, hot dog forks and similar items also work better with wood.

Ok. As much as I hate to admit this.. I suck at cooking over an open fire... We spent so many years tent camping that now we really do love using our TT appliances.. Now don't get me wrong.. I pull out the grill everytime and do steaks and hot dogs, etc. We also pull out our coleman camp stove especially if it is anything to do with oil.. On those really nice evenings we do try to cook most of our meals outside. I just thought that using the oven might help "ramp up" some different ideas... We have thought of the pizza thing too, just have not done it yet.. I do like the idea of trying biscuits though..

I like my oven and wouldn't remove it. However, just wanted to say that it looks like you did a very good job on that modification. It looks like you bought it that way.

Nice!

Another great way to cook is with a crock pot. The process of cooking over an open fire would take way too much time from the other things we do.

and it seriously is way too expensive to have a fire in the AM and then one at dinner time then when the sun goes down at night.

We are so busy hiking and exploring we need fast and convenient.

that's the great thing about a crock pot..start it in the morning and go do your thing and come back to a cooked meal and on the campgrounds dime

we cook Pizza's, chicken fingers, cinnamon buns cook easy in the trailer oven as well.
