Norty,

That's it. Looks like I left "Bell" out! Lol

Guess I was a little tired when I posted last night.

Those are decent prices, but guess I am being a little cheap in trying to find one less. But not sure I want what I have found for under $20 on Amazon. It looks like the Amazon ones all have equal sides, which will give the same pitch. If the sides are different lengths the pitch will be different for each side.

Not really something I (we) plan on using, more of a conversation piece I guess you could call it. I have almost bought one a few times, and my buddy (camping friends) had almost bought one. So I figure it's time.

I found a guy on YouTube that made some. He is made me realize it should have different length sides. I sent a message through fb to him also. And I may even just try to make my own, we will see!

TY!

I have been searching YouTube as well trying to decide if I have the tools to do so. Not sure if a propane torch will be enough though. Maybe fire up some charcoal in the smoker????

At the moment I am considering trying to make one, and if it doesn't turn out then try to buy one.

I will post what ends up being the end result!

Ps: Norty, could you add "Bell" to the title please.

TY!

Many crafts fairs, mountain fairs and flea markets have Blacksmiths as vendors and they usually have them or can make them.

Last craft show we went to I didn't see any, but it wasn't a huge show either.

Excellent suggestion, TY!

So after a trip to Home Depot today, I had a couple projects going on. One being to see if my propane torch was hot enough to bend a 1/2" round steel rod. Actually fired up a second one which helped heat the rod up.

Here is the result:

First bend came out pretty good. Second one wasn't as good though, but it works!!! May try another attempt later this year to see if I can improve it. After cooling the bends with water, I used a scotch brite pad to clean up the triangle, and heated it up on the grill. Then seasoned it to prevent rust.

Has 3 different pitches, so it's not monotone like some of the pre-made ones.

Just need to make a striker now and buy some leather to hang the triangle bell.

Not sure its the domain of blacksmiths, far from it. I made one for guy out of rebar, just because I had a stick of it laying around. Sp here is how to do it:

Decide on how long you want each leg to be. Got Home Depot and get a piece long enough to do it.

Take a cut off tool and a cut wheel....OK, you don't have one, then Harbor Frigjht is your friend, they have some cheap ones that regularly go on sale, I have caught them as cheap as $14.99, but around $20 bucks. Get a 4 1/2 in size and pick up a cut off disk for about $3 bucks. You can use this tool for a jillion things based upon what 4 1/2 dish/wheel you attach, everything from steel wire brush ro sanding disks. I have 12 of the things, each on has a different disk on it, such as 40. 60, 80, 120 grit sanding etc (I had a welding and metal fab shop).

Take your stick of rebar and mark where you want to notch. At the notch is where you will make your bend. Make sure all notches are on the same side, you will bend the rebar with the notch to the outside of the bend. Bend on a vice or just on your knee. Notch about 1/3-1/2 thru the rebar.

Now you have your triangle. Hang it with leather or rope, don't use a metal strap as it wil soak up some of the vibes.

Remember to leave a piece left over to hit the insides with. You can just tie some rope or leather to one end and band away.

Yea may cost as much as buying one, but you will have it and a useful tool left over, plus the pride in making your own...

17,

TY for the suggestion.

I actually did make my own, using a couple propane torches to heat the rod so I could bend it. The post above yours is mine with a pic of the triangle bell. Still need to make a striker though!

TY again!!!

Your welcome and now you know 2 ways of making one with and without a torch.

As for the angles of your bends, leave as is, you will get more tones that way...

I do have a couple "China outlet " (Harbor Freight) angle grinders, so set there. Just wasn't sure if the propane torches would work. But they did!!! Lol
