Pizza Stone for your Oven

For those of you that might be interested in a pizza stone for your oven, if you live near a World Market store, they have the 13 inch (which fits nicely in my Grayhawk oven) for $12 which is actually about 5 bucks less than the least expensive one on Amazon.

That link is broken. Perhaps you can share that file with the group?

Cooked tater tots, biscuits and a cake in the oven on our first trip. Oven worked great without a heat sink.

13 In Baking Stone

Just got my 13 inch Norpro baking stone, aka Pizza Stone, from Amazon. Will try our first oven baking this weekend and let you know how it goes.

Decided to keep the packing styrofoam to transport in when driving so it doesn't break.

Never once used an RV oven - not sure we've ever used any burners; the microwave has seen occasional use. Now our portable Baby Q Weber is used multiple times, daily.

For some reason that link is down. But, we also use the oven. Most of the time it's just used as a warmer for pancakes and potatoes (after coming off the grill of course). I do use the stove top every camping trip for our coffee percolator, beans and other stove top stuff.

But most of the cooking is done on our little Weber Q when it's not raining.

We just got a 2017 Jayco Hummingbird. I have never used a convection oven before. We have the High Pointe Microwave/convection/grill oven. Or does anyone know where I could get recipes for using the convection oven? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.

Also, what have you found is the best type of pan or dish to use in the oven?

We got ours a couple weeks ago from World Market (to replace the now broken floor tile), and used it last weekend for cinnamon rolls. It would've worked perfectly if I had let the oven heat up enough. I started a bit early, so the bottoms of the rolls were a bit overdone. Nothing tragic, just a little darker than we like. Next time I'll start the oven heating up right when I get out of bed, so it should work A LOT better. Even with this small misstep, it works worlds better than even the floor tile, and I'm not even going to bother using it again without any kind of heat diffuser...

They're YUMMY!!

I was right about letting the oven heat up. It worked a lot better last weekend. We did cinnamon rolls and biscuits (on different days). The cinnamon rolls turned out perfect. The biscuits came out a little more brown on the bottom, but I think that's because DW put them in before the oven was ready. I woke up, turned on the oven, went to the bathroom, and took the dog out and was planning to put them in when I got back inside. DW had already put them in, and I didn't notice how long they had been in. Knowing her, she put them in right when I got out of the bathroom, so not enough time for the oven to heat up properly.

I've discovered that preheating is VERY important for these little ovens. Give it plenty of time to get warmed up and it works A LOT better. Between that process and the pizza stone, I think I've got it figured out now! And it only took 3 years!!

We use the stove top for certain things, ie steaming/boiling vegetables, but haven't used the oven at all. I have a full size 5 burner Char-broil grill at my site. We cook almost everything outside. The DW is a grill master. She can bake, fry, boil, grill on the Char-broil. It's mainly because we don't like the smell of cooking lingering in such a small space, plus we don't want to have to clean it. I use the microwave on occasion to reheat my coffee. That about it.

Are you supposed to turn on the stove vent fan when using the oven? I do so, but wonder if its over kill.

I turn mine on if the oven is on, or the stove. Our vent is almost always open, but I'm not interested in taking any chances on CO in the trailer, so I always run the fan.

I run the fan and slightly open a window. I'm a safety man, belts and suspenders.

We come up with a few meals each trip that require using the oven, and always bring along some chocolate chip cookie dough.

I wouldn't do fish sticks in it, just things we don't mind smelling a bit the next morning.

I also poop in the camper from time to time lol, depends on the amenities at the campspot we're at. If they have great flush toilets, I have no problems stinking up the parks facilities for a bit.

Too bad, I scrolled back to page one to see what the poop was (information, not bodily function), and alas Rod's site appears to be down/no longer available Now I'll never know how to use our oven.

Ah, well back to cooking wienies over the campfire then...

I think it was a reference to another older thread (like this one we're on now) where people were debating if they go number 2 in their campers bathroom. At the time, our camper was *brand new* and I hadn't pooped in it yet lol, people thought I was weird (justifiable I'm sure at this point)

X2 on checking out the campground facilities before using my own. The only floor plan issue I have with the 21QB is the lack of shoulder, hip, and leg room at the toilet.

This past weekend cinnamon rolls in the oven 🤗
