Adding a trailer tie down?

I have a Jayco Octane 161 and would like to add a tie down.

Has any one added a tie down?

How did you do it.

Thanks

Johnnie

I have reached out in several directions on this, and will let you know what I come up with.

RoscoW, the place where you want to put the extra tie down, is it covered from the bottom?

What is the purpose of the tie down. Other than the obvious?

In my case, I need a tie down closer to the front of the RV, so that I can draw the Reeper into the RV with the winch. The Reeper fits in the RV with little extra space, driving in to the RV is a dangerous option, control of the Reeper is best with the winch.

I got under the RV and saw that the original tie downs have a plate on the underside of the floor, which is welded to the frame. The tie downs screw all the way through the floor and in to the medal plate.

This is a picture of the underside of RV the hole in the metal cross brace is the center of the RV from left to right. The tank to the left of the picture is the gray water holding tank. There is about 9" from the holding tank to the metal cross brace. This is the place where the new tie down can be installed. The backing place of the tie down can be screwed to the metal cross brace.

Mine needs to go at the back centre. I carry two quads at the back side by side and need a pull to the centre of the trailer. Right now all I get is a pull to the side and the ATV's want to "walk" sideways while travelling. I don't want tire marks on my wall.
I'll get to it this weekend I think and get some pics.

Finally got around to adding a couple tie downs to the Octane. Where I wanted them was at the rear door right beside the in floor storage box so first thing to do is remove the box and see whats there

Tool box was framed with aluminum and there was a steel crossmember running between that and the ramp

I located where I wanted the tie downs and used the card board display tag as a template to cut the floor

I cut the flooring with a knife and the OSB subfloor with a chisel and found one of the aluminum cross members part way into the cutout. that took a bit of drilling and connecting the holes to "mill" the crossmember down but it worked.

After that is was as simple as drill the 3/8" mounting holes and bolt them up. The rear two bolts went thru the aluminum box tube crossmember and then into the steel crossmember, and the front two at the moment are just thru the sandwich floor construction. Tomorrow I plan on getting a pc of 1/4" steel plate about 5" x 10" to span between the rear two steel cross members so all four bolts are structural. Members are orientated [ ] so I can clamp both flanges.

Wouldn't "milling" that much of the cross member substantially reduce it's strength?

It would make it weaker, but it is sitting directly above a steel crossmember so I'm not too concerned.
