Battery box inside a larger tool box?

Does anyone see a problem putting the battery box inside a much larger metal tool box provided it is secured, protected from tools, and all wires well protected from rubbing? There is just no place to put tools on our 2008 Octane.

I have done that here sometime back with one of those truck side mount tool boxes. Had two 6V batteries in series on one side and kept my tools on the other side.


After awhile I started noticing that the tools were getting corrosion from the battery gassing fumes I guess.

I tried to install a wood barrier but the tools kept getting corrosion so I removed my tools...

It was in one of these tool boxes...

About much time had passed that you noticed the corrosion? It is 11:20. We had to quit for the night. I forgot to take pictures as we worked untill it was dark but I will post pictures soon.

Did similar to my previous travel trailer. Had four 6-volt golf cart batteries centered for weight distribution, then used the space on either side for storage of Linx Levelers, wood blocks, and other leveling materials. Nothing that might be corroded by the battery acid fumes. I also drilled a series of ½" holes on the backside, and siliconed a small piece of screen over it (to keep bugs out), so that the compartment was vented.

Lowe's has a toolbox designed to go across the front of a truck bed rather than a side box, that seemed to fit better, so that's the box that I used...
