Can a RV dealer tell you they don't do outside warranty work?

Need to get some warranty work done on the leveling system and slide. I called All Valley RV in acton CA, and was told by Regina at the service department that they don't do warranty work on Jayco's they didn't sell. When I asked "How is it you are a Jayco dealer, and don't honor the jayco warranty?" She rudely said "I don't have time to answer that!" I called Jayco costumer service and filed a complaint against them. Cory at Jayco told me this was not acceptable and violated their contract. Have any of you had issues with this type of buffoonery?

I think Cory gave you bad info.....

It has been discussed, discussed and discussed again. Dealers are under no "obligation" to do warranty work on units they did not sell.

Every dealer is independent, they are not franchised like car dealers.

5 min of research on this topic will result in more pages than you can read in a month.

Essentially, YES, RV dealers can refuse warranty work and do all the time.

Unlike auto dealerships, who are franchised by the mfg and thus under their control, RV dealerships are independent businesses.

Most RV dealerships will help a "traveler in need" to get them back on the road, but several won't service local residents RVs that were bought outside the area.

Yes, they can and will do this. It depends entirely on the dealership. Posting the name of the dealers(which you did) that engage in the behavior is a real benefit to the community, as many will buy there trailers elsewhere.

I went to a local Jayco dealer for new tires on my 2015 Jayco Eagle. The first question was did you purchase it from us? I asked what difference does it make and I was told they were too busy with work from customer's who purchased their trailers from them. I explained that I purchased two Jaycos from them in the past. Their attitude changed a little, but I changed my mind and decided to take my business elsewhere.

As I read more and more about RV dealers I realize how lucky I am to be able to do the large majority of repairs myself. I completely understand the concept of free enterprise but for a dealer to be that independent that they tell you they simply will not work on your camper bothers me for some reason. Again, I get it but it leaves a large majority of the RV population in a very bad place...

I agree. The last three Jayco trailers I purchased were all new. I never wasted my time taking them back for warranty problems I always fixed them myself and I do all of the maintenance on my TTs.

I was going to replace all of the tires myself, but I recently tore my rotator cuff, so I had to take it in for tires.
