Fuel Guage not working

I have a 4113 with a combo fuel gauge / hour meter. I have a reading on the hour meter but no readout on the fuel gauge. There is a rocker switch for the fuel gauge, when pressed up for the generator and down for the fuel station. Should I be getting a constant readout for which ever tank is selectd? Is there something else I need to do to get a reading?

On my 310W you have to turn the fuel station pump switch on to get a reading for the fuel tanks.

That seems to work. Get an empty reading on both tanks. I thought the gen tank was to be full from factory. I have only run it about 2 hours just to exercise it a couple of times.

Question, if the Fuel Station tank is empty, would starting the fuel pump damage it since there is no fuel to pump. I did not realize in order to see the gen tank fuel level you have to also push the Fuel Station Tank button on. Since I only put a small quantity of fuel (five gallons) in the Gen Tank, I never see any reading. I guess you have to fill it up more to see any reading.

Make sure the shut off switch next to the fuel station is in the off position. I was worried about the same thing when I would turn on the pump switch and hear the pump running. Then realized the switch outside next to the fuel station was on the on position. It should always be in the off position unless you are pumping fuel from the station. Depending on the size of the tank, you may get an empty reading with only 5 gal of fuel.
