I'm not trying to say it is possesed but...

We have a new Octane 273 SL. We have taken it on a couple trips. All the sudden we are having an issue where the roof vents randomly pop open.

I'm not talking an inch or something but like 3 or 4 inches.

We are double and tripple checking that they are closed, then the next day we will find one open.

Anyone seen this?

Do you have vent covers installed, like the Maxxair II or similar?

No. But this is happening while the trailer is stationary.

I'm at a loss on that one. Never seen vents open on their own sitting still.

AC vibration is the only thing I can think of. I've never had this happen or even heard of this happening at a stand still. Possessed, maybe?

I'm at a complete loss with this one. Is it just one vent, two vents, or all of the vents? If the A/C vibration was causing this, I would think the whole trailer would be rockin. Usually, you have to turn a knob to open/close the vents, which means a threaded connection somewhere in the assembly. When you close the vent, does it feel like it closes securely? The only thing I can come up with is if the threads aren't holding, the pressure for the air heating up might make them open. I really don't thing there's an RV that airtight. Are you sure that someone's not messing with you? I'm asking because after owning three different makes and types of trailers, I have never heard of this.

Well it's kinda funny I guess. The first time it happened we didn't know what to think. We had just driven through some of the heaviest rain I have seen in a long time. We only had a damp spot on the bed so I figured my wife had opened it after we arrived and the rain had stopped
and some water just dripped in. We forgot about it. The next morning we woke up and it was open again. My wife was convinced I did it. The next morning it was the bathroom vent. Now my wife was really convinced it was me. It didn't happen the next night. We got home. Two days later we went over to the trailer to do some cleaning and the bedroom vent was open. We had really made sure they were all closed securely. We are concerned because we got lucky this time as we were able to close no problem. If it opens in storage and we have a rain, it could really get things messy inside. Now we feel like we have to check it all the time.

I'm going with Tunce.....you've got a possession case here and I doubt it's covered by the warranty. I would hire a Native American Shaman to cleanse your TT of all spirits with a burning sage ritual....just be sure to disable the smoke alarm.....or you could just charge the spirit rent and help pay for storage fee.....and teach the spirit to close the dang vents when it rains.

My guess is the connection between the arm that opens the vent and the little round thingy you turn is loose so the wind can pick up the vent cover.

Our kitchen vent has a thermostat that will open the vent and turn the fan on. It's useless tho as it's like a furnace thermostat, wants to turn the vent on when the temperature is lower than the set point.

Might just need to call in the Ghost Busters. Go-Pro camera in a hidden spot so see the evil spirits or the kids playing a joke on you.

How about a little piece of tape to keep the handle from turning??

Personally, I would install Max Air style roof vent covers on all the vents then you do not have to worry about it.

Huh

I didn't want to put tape on the top to hold them closed as it would just make a mess with the sun, etc.

However, I didn't think about taping the handle/crank. It would be interesting to know if it pops open without the handle turning. That may indicate that maybe the threads are stripped, etc.

I didn't think that was the issue because when you open or close it seems to work smoothly with no slippage or the like.

It would be nice if they had a clip or something where you could actually latch them closed.

I'm having a hard time believing some good old-fashioned hairy eyeballs can't figure out how this is happening. Sounds like the actuator arms may be stripped, and the plastic gears are allowing the vents to open. Have you seen if this happens when a few windows are open? I'm thinking that a slamming or harshly shut door is creating positive pressure in the coach, which pops the vents open as the path of least resistance.

It could be. The last time we hadn't closed the door yet. It just started happening. I am going to have to watch it and see if I can figure out what is causing it.
