Octane 222

Howdy. I'm ready to pull the plug on buying a Octane 222, and I had a few questions.

First, I have a 2016 Tundra Double Cab, 4x4. Max towing is 9800, and tongue weight of 1k. I have done some rough figures with the sales guy I have been talking with and we came up with a loaded trailer Weight of 6800 pounds (small quad, water, propane, etc etc). So if I run the correct Equalizer WDH, will this truck be safe to use to haul the trailer.

Of course the salesman says it's "good to good" and completely safe. But he is a salesman. This is my biggest concern of buying this toyhauler.

Second, I am planning to do an axel flip for more ground clearance because I don't want to rip out the plumbing. Some of the places I go hunting are not void of hidden rocks and stumps. Anyone see any issues with an axel flip?

Third, I am really liking this trailer and the layout, so I am in no way bad mouthing Jayco or the Octane line. As the months go, am I going to find hidden issues in the materials or construction in this trailer? This trailer will be pulling double duty as a family camping, and hunting rig.

Thanks for the help.

I pull our 22 with a 2014 Silverado 1500 4x4 crew cab with few issues. The only challenge is of course steep grades.

As for Jayco issues, yes you will have fit & finish issues. I personally believe Jayco should slow down & not try to to build eight or nine units a day, but do only six or seven & do them right.

Thanks for the reply. I feel a little better with someone saying their half ton is up to par.

I went down today and signed the papers. Will go back and get the trailer on Tuesday. Wound up getting the Equilizer 4 WDH. I guess I will pay extra attention to the little things when I do my walk through to make sure the fit and finish is as good as can be.

Does anyone have any input on doing an axel flip on these toyhaulers. I am looking at it as an insurance policy for the under carage.
