Shopping for our Toy Hauler!

My husband and I have been Jayco owners/fans from our start a little over 6 years ago. Our first TT was a 2005 31BHS and our 2nd was a 2011 32BHDS G2. After 1 season of camping in the '11, we realized our family needs were more along the line of a TH. Our kids are now old enough that they started riding quads this year and my husband and I fly BIG gas R/C airplanes. Going to events/competitions last year with our models and camper meant we had to drive 2 vehicles and pull 2 trailers. What a pain...filling 2 gas tanks on long trips (both getting reduced gas mileage b/c of air resistance)...and sometimes we'd have to literally stop and rest at a rest area instead of just switching drivers.

Enter our love for the Recon 40D/39C. Just as we sold our TT and started into ordering questions with our favorite dealer, we found out that Jayco is discontinuing the Recon and coming out with something all new. It's the Seismic and it looks awesome!

So, my question is this...there is 1 brand new 39C on a lot and the first offer from that dealer to us is below $50k. MSRP is $75748 and offer was $49435...that's 35% off MSRP which is a smoking deal according to the buying advice on here. But, without knowing the pricing yet on the Seismic and thinking that the Recon values are going to tank once the Seismics do hit the market, I don't feel comfortable paying $49xxx for the new Recon.

Should we wait and order a Seismic, or deal for a lower number on the Recon?

Hey Whirly! Welcome to the forum! I have not done much research on the Toy Haulers - but that seams like quite a deal. If you like the unit and feel like it is a good price, then go for it. Remember that will the new models also come some of the initial shake downs with problems so you can also by pass that. There is always going to be a new something that is going to be better - but my thought is if you keep waiting - you will never buy anything

Enjoy and let us know what you decide!

Yes, you make a very good point. Just like in cars, it is usually better to buy the last year of an old make rather than the first year of a new and have to deal with the bugs.

However, it's not like Jayco is trying out a new engine or transmission on this new floor plan.

I know...I can talk myself into both options. LOL

Try making an offer of $44.000 taxes in... see what he says it is the end of the season... could even try for less...

All trailers are outdated with the next years offering. You just have to get the one that fits your needs.

Well, we pretty much have made the decision now. The dealer we are working with is super and treats us very fairly. After seeing all the new little bells and whistles on the Seismic, we have decided to take the plunge on it! It's going to cost us a bit more than $10k more than we could have bought a Recon for, but in the end, having 2 more feet in the garage and a list of so many other features was well worth it! This is our "final" camper purchase for a while and we feel it met our needs with 3 kids, 2 dogs, quads and model airplanes...oh, and we're military, so in between assignments we live in our RV while searching for housing or getting our household goods packed/delivered.

We will soon be proud owners of a Seismic 3914 with the following options:
Dual opposing electric sofas
24" Convection microwave w/oven
12 cu. ft. refrigerator
2nd A/C in bedroom
MOR/ryde Pin box

I tried to look up some information on the Seismic and couldn't find anything other than reviews. What year is the Seismic and when do you take possession? Also do dealers have current info on these models? I would really like to look into a Jayco Toyhauler in a few years(4 years to retirement) and would like to upgrade to a Toyhauler. This one really sounds like what I would be looking for. Thank you Curt

OMG, that is beautiful. Where might I find some specs on this new model? Looks like this one has some incredible upgrades. Maybe they will have one at the Chicago RV show. Thank you Curt

Here's a dandy toy hauler, although it's not made by Jayco.

Perfect for this time of year. I'm sure it has a cold weather package.

Sorry IL Camper...didn't see this post until now! You can inquire about the Seismics with just about any Jayco dealer I imagine. I *HIGHLY* recommend contacting the dealer we just ordered from in OH. Matt and Cathie at Homestead RV in Hubbard, OH are honest, down-to-earth people to deal with. They are small and deal exclusively with Jayco-brand campers. Their low overhead meant that we got the best deal around...TOTALLY worth the drive from Virginia to Ohio to pick up our new toyhauler. This is the 2nd new Jayco RV we have purchased from them, and my parents have purchased 3 from them. www.homesteadrv.net

I'm attaching some of the files we were sent to look over as well as a custom video that Matt made for us as he viewed the 3914 floorplan at the big show in KY where Jayco unveiled this beauty!

Edit...the files are too large to attach to this forum I guess. Send me a PM with your email address and I'll send them to you.

We just got a few teaser pics from the dealer. Our Seismic is now delivered and they are prepping it for us. We'll be driving up this weekend to take possession.

Wow! I cannot believe it. Pinch me!!!

I agree!

And I have to give a big shout out to Ben @Jayco. During the final verification of everything at the factory, they noticed one of the windows was incorrect (we ordered the thermal pane window upgrade). They were out and the next shipment would have delayed delivery until past mid-April. Ben had the window kit shipped overnight to Jayco and before we knew it, Monday afternoon Homestead RV was sending me pictures of our toy hauler on their lot just after delivery! Good thing they hadn't sent the pictures the day before (April 1st)...I wouldn't have believed it!!!
