transfer Switch Issues x4
Went and checked on our Seismic yesterday, been in shop since April. The tech knows this unit very well!
In passing he said I ordered another transfer switch? The one in it has failed again. This will be the fourth one that has gone south..................unit is now 14 months old and been in shop 9 months of the 14.
Anyone else had issues with transfer switches???

Are they wiring it wrong when they replace it? There haven't been any issues discussed about mass failures on JOF.
I'm almost sure JAYCO is using the same brand TS in all their units.

goes in the same way it comes out, works for awhile and then fails. I now carry one as a spare due to the ongoing issues. However it never gets out of the shop long enough to fail when using it.

X4, Just wondering are they saying how it is actually failing? I'm thinking loose connections, Intermittent low voltage or ect.???? I'd actually be checking input and output leads really closely in my opinion.

That is the same unit we have in our 2015 Pinnacle. I wonder if the factory mis-wired it and the same mistake is just being repeated when being replaced.

this is a mechanical switch, when power is supplied to shore side it supplies power to the panel. Voltage is 120V and when working energizes the contractor. The contractor fails if less than 105V. In this case the voltage has always been 120-`125V. The generator has never been running when shore power is on, however the switch is generator dominant. that said there is 20-30 second delay for switching.

According to Progressive Dynamics the switch wouldn't work at all if wired incorrectly. The control board I found out is made in China, that may be the problem

As shadester asked, where is the fail? Does it fail on geny or shore power?

But it wouldn't be only on your unit if that is the case.

I am told at dealer they have had many fail over the course of the year, mostly in Class A motorhomes.

If mine failed to switch one time I would put in an outlet in its place and plug it in myself.

I just want to clarify something. I also have a PD52 but it works in reverse of how you have stated. It is only energized when the generator is running. After 20 second delay, you hear the contractor close energizing the electrical panel with the generator power. Basically the Contactor is a dual pole relay...it closes the circuit in both cases if it is energized or not.

I have have had 2 transfer switch failures since I started full time in August 2010. The first was an IOTA switch which was recalled after my failure in March 2012 and IOTA quit making the unit. This was with 24 months in service. The IOTA was replaced with a PD52 as mentioned above.
The PD52 failed in August 2014 after 29 months in service. Both failures occurred while on shore power. I never ever start the generator with shore power turned on or make a transfer with any large loads operating.
The failed PD52 was replaced with another PD52 as well as some burned wiring. So far it is still in service. Both failures happened at the house side leads on the transfer switches.
Here are pictures of both failures. The one on top is the IOTA.
