Dry Camping Weekend

We are headed out this morning for 4 days of dry camping!!! This will be our second trip with the 35S for dry camping. My husband (Vicr) just installed two crazy huge batteries (he will be posting the photos of the install later) so we won't run out of power. The funny thing is, when we dry camp, we don't really use much power. But it's nice to know it's there. With the location of the fresh water at the campground, we may just go ahead and fill the tank at home so we don't have to maneuver to much. We'll report back after the weekend, but with the temps getting over 90 this weekend in the Pacific Northwest, it will be nice to be in the mountains and the trees!

We don't like to pull excess water down the road including up and down the mountains of AZ when headed north. We usually only travel with 1/4 tank of fresh water with black and grey tanks empty. Propane weighs 4.4 pounds/gallon, water weighs 8.4 pounds/gallon. And full or empty for that matter, tanks can change the handling of the motorhome significantly.

We were going to go out for the weekend but decided to just drive the towed tomorrow to see the small-town rodeo.

Part of the reason we are going with a full tank is to see how it does drive with a full tank in the event we have to travel with one. The trip is relatively flat with only modest inclines and declines so hills are not an issue. Also, I have done this drive 30 or so times in the last 16 years.

All of your handling issues may be resolved by traveling with a full fresh water tank, depending upon where it is located above the chassis.
