Electrical hum under bed, Precept 31

Our 2015 Jayco Precept 31 has a electrical hum coming from under the bed all night long. Has anyone else noticed this or is this a problem with our rig? I thought it might be the converter but I flipped off the breaker switch labeled as the converter but this did not help. Very annoying trying to sleep with this constant noise.
If anyone has had this problem and knows of a fix I would appreciate the information. Right now I wish I had purchased this RV.

I would think the easy way to figure it out is look under the bed and see whats there that could make the noise. Cut all power then turn on one breaker at a time until the noise appears again.

It could also be something in the pass thru storage area. I see that is directly under your bed as well...

My first thought would be inverter. Do you have one running your refrigerator?

Transfer switch for the geny....

Grumpy is correct again! The transfer switch solenoid is making that sound - a 60 cycle electric hum. Normally an indication it is about to fail. Dealer should fix under warranty no questions asked. Dealer will prolly replace entire transfer switch as that is easier than replacing parts.

Quick way to determine transfer switch is making this noise would be to unplug from any shore power - noise will stop.

I've had that hum coming from the transfer switch since we bought our 31UL 18 months ago. Jayco told me this is normal.

have been considering purchasing a precept 35up, so far like the research on this

but if this hum is normal my wife will hit the roof, sleep time needs to be quiet

is there no way around this hum?

If it's built like the Greyhawk everything that does anything electrical is under the bed

phillyrv - my wife and I are hooked on cruise ships and often go on them. One thing I have read in cruise forums is how some people deal with noise when their cabin happens to be near a bar, dining room or dancing place. Put the TV on timer sleep for an hour with sound low to add white noise to the bedroom. We use a fan on low and this works for us. Some people play audio devices with nature sounds - whatever works for you.

I can say for sure your transfer switch WILL be under the bed and it will hum. The humming is very soft and does not bother us but a very light sleeper may need help. Perhaps you could negotiate a better switch installed when you buy the RV or just bite the bullet and have it changed at your expense. I would think $300 would get a nice one installed?

An electrician could rewire the switch so shore power is the default but that would be last resort. This way the solenoid would only hum when on genny power and you prolly could not hear it then.

I would try sleeping at home with a fan and see if the wife could deal with that- if so, use a fan in the coach and your set!! It would not take much to drowned out the hum from the transfer switch.

I guess I should say that my transfer switch hums louder when I am on 30 amp shore power. When on 50 amp power it is much quieter.

My set up at home is a 30 amp plug and I use a 30 foot extension cord to reach the coach. The voltage at coach is only 118 with no load. That is well within limits and allows me to use lights, one A/C and the TVs of course. It also keeps batteries topped off and ready to go! I do hear the solenoid hum when it is quiet inside - very quiet. In RV parks, I never notice. Perhaps because of all the surrounding noises?
