Fuel Mileage with Generator Running
I'm curious what others are experiencing for fuel mileage when running the generator for the front AC while traveling? Is it even noticable?

Depending on your Gen set, and load, you may not see anything. Ours is a 4000 and under full load it will consume 0.8gph, which is nearly a MPG if traveling at a constant 60ish MPH.

And you definitely will not be at full load, probably more like 1/2 load or less 90% of the time while driving.

Steve, last week we travelled 2 days running the front AC off of generator which also powered the fridge. I don't really keep track of fuel mileage but I didn't see any significant drop in fuel consumption.
With the sun to our backs, I reduced the AC output from the dash a few times and we also used a 12'' box fan to move the air at floor level. We were very comfortable, Mary and I and 7, 14 & 18 year old grandkids.

Used both AC's heading from OKC to NOLA in 90's temps. Drove 75ish and averaged about 6.7mpg with the gen running the entire time. YMMV.

There is some discussion about MPG on the Gone with the Wynn's blog after a recent post on the subject. I read through 5 pages of comments and 6 to 8 MPG is the norm from the input of everyone there. Specifically for the V10 platform.
The diesels get a few MPG more, with the sprinter based rigs being the MPG champs averaging around 15mpg.

Well, I finally checked my fuel mileage travelling with the genny, front AC and fridge on...............6.8mpg. That is only on 1 tank so may not be totally conclusive. I was on interstate for about 1/5th of the drive and the rest was in the Boston Mountains, 2 lane in AR.
That is about the same mileage I got with my 350, dually, crew, V10 pulling a 37' toyhauler.
I will add that my driving habits are using the cruise set at 60-62 and let the tranny and engine do the work.

IMO, the range will be roughly 6.5-8.0 with the variable being your right foot and the terrain.
One trick I use is to release the cruise control when approaching an overpass and not re-engaging until back on relatively flat road. I use the "RES" button to release & re-engage the CC.
Like D&MAKAFUN, I'm set in the low 60s and I've got an overall average of about 7.5 (with and w/o gen).

McGarrett50, You made a good point with your "trick". I had become lazy and just let the CC work with the computer to keep me at speed. Yesterday on our way to Lincoln NE, I used your method, maintained my speed within 4-5 mph of my cruising speed and never once had the tranny shift so low that the "roar" came in. Thanks

on the 5500 Generator, it will burn 0.9Gph under full load. https://powersuite.cummins.com/PS5/P...ets/a-1425.pdf
