Mounting Front License Plate

2017 31UL - Need to mount a front license plate. In looking at the area involved, I can't tell exactly what I'm dealing with. Before drilling any holes, I thought I'd check with you folks. Is that area of the lower front some sort of sandwich with an air space in between? Seems like a person could use fat, self-tapping screws (how long?), or bolts that go all the way through, or "molly" types of fasteners, or 1/4-inch diameter aluminum rivets. Is there danger of starting a crack in the fiberglass? This should be the simplest, most straightforward task imaginable, but I'm not sure that it is . . . Thanks!

Not mounted yet

I haven't mounted my front plate yet for those reasons, I don't want to drill holes in the front. I have seen plates secured to the grill with plastic wire ties and plates mounted to the front below the grill with stainless hardware. Right now my front plate is in the windshield at the lower front edge.

That's where mine is, too! It just may stay there until I feel comfortable doing something else. Or the police object to it.

My front plate is in the cabinet over drivers seat! I am not going to drill any holes in the front of my Precept, I will take my chances, Since my father in law is a retired cop, I also have the get out of jail free card, it has worked every time I needed to present it! so I think a license plate violation might pass on by.

If it's a plastic bumper cover, there should be two dimples in the cover to mount a plate. Most likely in the center. But like others have said, I'd think of something else to attach it. If it's ever sold, the next owner may not live in a state requiring two tags. Then it's just unsightly.

Some good 3M automotive tape should work.

on my 15 31UL I have the metal front with holes... didn't want to try
and attached with bolts in case it fell off...

so I keep my front plate in the pocket behind the Driver Seat..
if I ever get pulled over... I will tell them I am waiting for part from
Dealer....LOL

and since dealer takes 6 months to get a part... that would probably
be a true statement...!

We have a '16 31UL and I found a shop that does RV restorations and works a lot with fiberglass bodies, (collision damage etc) so I asked him how one would attach a front plate and he says, "do you have $20?" and I said yes, and it couldn't have taken him more than 10 minutes to carefully drill 2 small pilot holes then used 2 self-tapping screws to attach the front plate. It looks good, as if the factory had actually provided a dedicated space there to mount a plate, and after 12K+ miles it's still there, no cracks, etc.

Good to hear. I think your solution is the leading contender. Missouri Law is very specific about what they expect to see. Thanks!

So is california. I used a black license holder, drilled pilot holes then final size hole for machine screws. A washer and lock nut secured the holder nice and tight. Looks like it came from the factory that way.😆

I put it through the right hand corner of the grill I have drove 70mph in 100+ degree days and the engine stayed cool.

I did alot of rental cars in my working days and rented one out of DFW Dallas one time. Got to my work site and the troops there said I only had one license on the rental car. I went and looked - sure only one on the rear of the rental car. Texas requires one on the front and rear...

So I finished my work trip and took it back to DFW Rental Car turn in and parked beside another rental car. Since i sort of remembered the license plate number this one had caught my eye... Sure enough it was the same number mounted on the rear of two rental cars...

When I finished checking in and returning my car I mentioned the car next to me had the same license number and neither car had a plate on the front... All I got was a strange look hehe...

True story...

Seems that one of these options would work and not look bad:

As Roy points out Texas is a 2 plate state but it seems 3 out of 10 will not have one. Mostly what I call "vanity cars". When my father died it kind of left me feeling "old" and I entered my "crazy phase". Bought a Mustang convertible started flying lessons. The Bride put her foot down when I mentioned getting an 18 YO girlfriend.
Anyway, I digress.
Couldn't bring myself to drill holes in the front bumper to mount the plate so I got a clamp-on holder from a guy on ebay. Worked great for several weeks then it found its way to the trunk and stayed there.
Highway patrol pulled me over for no front plate. I explained that it was in the trunk. He asked why it was in the trunk. So I explain that I remove it when I wash/wax the shiny vert and forgot to put it back on. He let me go with a warning.

Waiting on warning

I'll take my chances and tell Ohio LEO's that I'm waiting on the factory mounting plate. It's sort of visible at the base of the windshield and I've seen others even cars do the same. No holes if I can help it.
