Unhappy Power lifts on Precept

Power jack issue on the precept 31ul? I am getting an indicator that the jacks are down when they are retracted. Jacks are all up, I turn off the instrument and put the RV in gear and the entire panel lights up and the alarm beeper continues. Tried to turn it off and it continues to alarm. I am going camping this afternoon and the alarm will drive me crazy.

Usually all you have to do be patient. Give the system time to do it's thing.

The jacks down light is triggered by a float switch in the hydraulic tank, not by actual jack being down. The oil level MUST be full or the float will not raise enough to turn warning light off.

You just need to add some ATF oil in the tank. It has to be so full, it may seep some as you travel. Not sure why Power Gear requires tank to be so full but it must be.

Melted Chassis Wire - Caused Hydraulic lift Alarm

Our friends had a 2014 Precept 29UM with the same problem. They were driving down the highway and the hydraulic leveling system let out a shrill of an alarm causing them to immediately pull over and check to see if the jacks where down. Luckily they were not.

Repaired by Jayco, apparently a known issue, the chassis wires are run too close to the exhaust and actually began to melt causing a short in the electrical system.

I added about 16 ounces and now the alarm is intermittent showing the rear only jacks are down. I will add another 16 ounces and see what happens. Thanks for the input.

We live on a farm and have a bumpy road to go down before we hit the highway. Sometimes the bumps cause the alarm to go off. First time it happened, I about jumped out of my skin. I finally figured it out but for a newbie it is scary.

Thanks for the tip about the hydraulic fluid.

16 ounces? It should not be that low. Are you checking when extended or retracted?

You always check when retracted so fluid is returned to tank.

I had a similar problem that happened twice. The first time fluid was added and the system seemed ok. Each time there was a small amount in the curved section of the jack foot. The second time the mechanic discovered a small leak in the piston area of the right front jack. If you have this problem check all jack areas for leaks. If the reservoir of fluid consistently goes low, check for leaks.

That happened to me twice. Check for leaks if the oil reservoir is below the fill line. The curved portion on the foot is a good place to start and then check the piston. Also, the surrounding area of the leveler. Small drips add up.

It should probably be said that a new coach will always have some air in the lines that will work back to the tank after being used a few times. This is why most of us had to add some ATF at first. Once the air is gone your tank should stay full, otherwise you may be leaking which can be seen upon inspection pretty easy.
