Power Shade - Front Window - Precept 31UL

We took delivery of our fourth Jayco about a month ago. First issue was Water Heater which we were told that it had bad board so once it was replaced hot water works great. When we picked up unit and drove it back to our storage place we noticed that the power shade isn't working properly. Is there a program or something to correct this issue?

GmaLady, first, welcome to the group. It would be helpful to know what year and modal Precept you have in case Jayco made any changes. In this community, there is a thread that addresses this issue. I never had this problem so I just glossed over it. But the people who have had a problem with the travel of the shade, found an easy fast fix from Jayco. Yes, I believe it was a program issue easily fixed by your dealer or Jayco. Good luck with your new coach.

GmaLady, I failed to tell you where this thread was. When you click on Community, then on Social groups, you will see a picture of a Precept. This is the Precept Owner group where the thread is. Also a great place to learn what problems we fixed and how. The additional benefit is that you will see some problems you DON"T have.

Thanks for the very warm welcomes! We just purchased the 2016 Precept 31UL. Our previous coach was 2003 Granite Ridge 31. We also are towing two motorcycles and have purchased the Prodigy RF which was easy to install.

I had a problem with the front shade in my 2015 31UL not working. I duck taped the shade in the up position and took it to the dealer where I was informed the house power switch at the entry door must be on for the shade to operate. Turned on the switch, removed the duck tape and voila!! That is an example of how I learn most lessons about my motorhome. DUH!!!

This link should open a pdf file page you can save to your computer.

http://www.mcdinnovations.com/downlo...nersManual.pdf

Every one of us with power front shades should keep this as you WILL have to reprogram your shade if you run the battery down or simply remove a cable for any reason. Also, electrical glitches could cause your shade to lose it's programming.

The power shades used in Precept, and prolly most Jayco models having power shades, is made by MCD innovations. As far as I can see, all their programmable models use this same procedure to program the shade.

Use page 8 in this file to program your shade as needed. You will find the "learning key", as MCD calls it, is at the left end of your shade up near the roof. It is two wires hanging down and mine has a very small push button switch plugged into it for ease of use.

Now get out there and fix the shade!!

Thanks for this link Mowdoc. I didn't get one with my paperwork. I have disconnected my cables for some work I had to do and did not loss my programing, but maybe I was just lucky. Anyway, good info to have.

Ok.. Ok... We took our Jayco back to dealer yesterday so they could change the bezel as it was cracked when we purchased it and then for them to install the ladder that apparently was forgotten. And then for the dealer to correct the shade issue. We picked coach up this morning and peace has been restored. The wiring was reversed on the shade so no matter what we tried is would have not worked properly. Thanks again for all of your help!

GmaLady, does the '16 31UL have a rear slide? If so, how did they install a ladder?

CaptainHappy,
Our rear slide is actually on the driver side of coach so they installed the ladder on the left side.

A friend of mine has a Winnie View with a rear slide. He has to lower his bike rack every time he opens the slide. Bummer. Thanks for all the good info on the front shade!! Who would ever think there are so many issues, problems and potential problems to discuss?¿?
