Refrigerator Running Constantly

Do most of you run the refrigerator between trips, ie, when it's parked at home ? I have 50 amp hookup at home just wondering if constantly running shortens the life ? Or is it better to unload if it will be a few weeks between trips ?

There is no right or wrong answer, just personal preference and your convenience.

We leave ours on if we are going out in less than a week. If more, it's off until a few days before the next trip.

Our logic is when we come home from a 2 or 3 week trip, it is iced up and needs defrosting anyhow.

The absorption type fridge has no moving parts to wear out.

I have not heard of any issues ether way. I typically turn ours off between trips. Just make sure to prop the door open. Many of the new Frigs have a little lock that will prop the door open. If you leave the door closed it may smell when you open it.

If you do keep it running between trips, it'll prevent spiders from clogging up the mixing tube with webs.

If you use gas, that is. I'm not sure if the electric element heat would be enough to keep the spiders out.

I turn it on when I de-winterize.

It's off during transit (propane paranoia).

Otherwise, it's on until winterizing.
