Replace my Charger / converter - advice?
We are on our second standard battery converter charger - both are bad at actually charging the batteries. Has anyone replaced their converter charger? If so advice, installation steps and pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks was looking at these but not sure it is a direct replacement for the unit in our 2016 Jayco Precept.

Would it be better to install one of the surface mount chargers and just bypass the existing one?

Why bother replacing a bad converter with another bad converter. Looking to get a true smart charger/converter.

I would be looking into what the cause of the convertors not charging the house batteries as they should . I have had 2 motorhomes and haven't had problems with either charging the house batteries either when plugged in or when I ran the generator

This is a surface mount. PD9200 Series RV Power Converters
From what I've read Progressive Dynamics is one of the best. I've had 2 WFCO converters die.
I don't understand how you've fried 2 converters in a 2016, sounds like another issue.
I certainly would be scolding my dealer after the second one died!

X2 There has to be some other issue that has been over looked. In my eyes Progressive is an excellent converter/charger and to fry two of them would send up many red flags!!!

Need a little more information....
Did you ever discharge the batteries below 12 VDC? Was the battery ever dead (below 10.5VDC)? How often do you check the battery water level? How often do you have to add water? Are all the terminal connections clean and tight? Are you trying to run the fridge off of the battery/inverter? Anything else on the inverter? Does your system have a built in volt meter... not the worthless idiot light bar?

Converter/Charger - clarification
All thanks for the comments.
This is a brand new unit - 2016 Jayco Precept 29UR. The converter/charger is 'working' - it is not fried - that was on our previous motorhome. The wires are all connected, clean, etc.
After 3 days plugged into 50A service the batteries are not fully charged. Jayco states the converter may not be working properly. I am looking to replace with a better/smarter charger than the stock one in the hope it will actually work. Our last Jayco, also did not charge the batteries very well.

If what you have is a Progressive Dynamics unit, I wouldn't be so quick to replace it with something else. They have a history of being reliable and do an excellent job of charging and maintaining batteries. How have you determined the state of charge?? With a multimeter?

Have you had the batteries checked?

Converter Charger - Progressive Dynamics
All heard from Jayco. The Prcept has a Progressive Dynamics PD4590K18NS2 90-Amp Load center with integrated converter. The converter itself is a model PD4590CSV.
Have not checked the batteries, but the unit was manufactured in January so the batteries are brand new. Will check just in case.

The best you can get from my experience. What brand battery? They could have gotten a few bad ones.

I have a PD 4590 converter/charger in my 2014 Seneca and it does a good job keeping my 4 house batteries charged. The built-in Charge Wizard progresses through its various modes as the batteries near full charge.
I second Grumpy's motion to check the batteries. I had 3 of the 4 original Harris batteries go bad due to suspected freezing before I got the coach. Probably could have pushed Jayco into replacing them, but decided instead to install 4 Trojan 6-volt batteries instead.

Thanks
Thanks new batteries on on the list. The coach only has 2 Harris Batteries - 27D170. Considering replacing with Lifeline AGM batteries - as many/as large as will fit in the 14x14x12.5 space/shelf.
