28BHS Worth installing roof vents?

Our 28BHS comes with no roof vents other than the bathroom vent and the a/c unit.

We may not have electrical hook up at our seasonal site this year, so I am wondering if we should install a couple (2 or maybe even 3) roof vents to help the hot air escape.

I'm just starting to consider this, so I have no idea if it's reasonable to do, nor what type of vent I should be looking at.

Can anyone here share any tips or information you have for me? Thank you!

I've been considering the same thing; interested to hear what others have to say. Our 28BHBE only came with the one roof vent above the bathroom, and sometimes I think it would be nice to have something above the bed at the other end of the trailer.

Three things have stopped me from attempting this mod: 1) DW will have an aneurism if I start cutting holes in the roof (but it does have 2nd AC prep in that spot, so the hole may get cut some day anyway!), 2) There is actually pretty good cross-flow with the windows open, 3) I don't really want to go to the expense just yet.

Another roof vent will help get rid of hotter air that rises, so it would be worthwhile. Option B (if you are scared of cutting a hole in the roof like I would be!) is to install a fantastic fan or other quality fan to pull air out. They do go through more power than the regular fan, but they really pull a LOT of air.

My RV had the same roof ventilation that your does. I replaced the cheap bath fan with a Fantastic Fan that is much quieter and draws much more air throughout the rig. I am going to put a non-motorized vent in the bedroom for extra ventilation cuz it gets hot in there
Jayco puts the back-up framing in the roof but does not cut out all the openings. For instance, in my RV there are two other places for roof vents, one in the bedroom and one in the kitchen area. If you put a vent somewhere that has no back-up framing in the ceiling, you will need to put some blocking in (I suppose you don't have to put blocking in but lets just say that you should). I requested a roof truss schematic from Jayco which shows where this blocking is located (and where you should put the vents). If you contact Jayco, make sure you include your VIN otherwise you will get nowhere. Good luck with your project.

We are not much on using air conditioners since most of our camping is off the power grid. We certainly use our roof vents big time. Just go crack some windows on one end of the trailer and run the vent fan in the ceiling of the bed room and pulls in all of the cool night breeze all night long...

We have the Fantastic Roof vent fan...

Even setting one of those 22-inch floor fans (WALMART) in a window and let it pull cool night air through the trailers works wonders as well...

I'm looking at the 'Vortex II' fan

at CW and Amazon.

The installation of Vortex fans doesn't require disturbing the roof seal, unlike the Fantastic fans. You just swap out the inside fan parts.

oldmanAZ, thanks for posting the Vortex II. I like being able to upgrade the fan without having to disturb the roof seal. Having owned a few trailers, I know how easy it is to create leaks.

You don't say the age of your unit but Jayco will probably send the diagrams with locations of the structural members. Since you have the A/C prep I'd bet it'd be reasonable to do.
